My brew shop doesn't carry amber dme and I've normally just made due with light dme and playing around with various amounts of grains. Two questions.

1)Is there a ratio I could use to combine light and dark dme to essentially create amber?

2)If a recipe calls for amber dme + grains, am I going to get the same result using (light dme + grains) + grains like I've been doing?

Since I have no reference to whether or not my method is matching the recipe(s), I'm just wondering if this is a close enough alternative or if I could get closer by mixing extracts.

1) nope, very different grain make-ups

2) amber dme is around 5-10% crystal 60 (some have 5-10% munich too), so just use light dme and add about 2oz C60 per lb light dme to properly adjust
