Steel Toe is exceptional (at least Size 7 & Size 11 that I've had). No knock on Lucid or Indeed but I liked the Steel Toe more.

To each their own, we all have different tastes. I agree that both size 7 and 11 are good beers. And an glad to have so many local breweries making beer I like. But the "day tripper" and "let it ride" by indeed are standout beers to me.

And just to give Surly their due, Furious was the IPA that got me hooked on IPAs.

[ QUOTE=sompls;6074460]Steel toe does a heck of a job...surly gets all the press but beer for beer steel toe is right there (the cities are a great place to be if you like beer! :) )

Hmmm... Never had any steel toe or surly.

They package but only in the cities, so I am out of luck, Indeed just started distro up by me and Midnight Rider is very good, but I am into the Black IPAs right now.

One of you guys from the cities should hook him up on his grant or if not I might have to drive down there next weekend and grant it. Shouldn't last that long though.

I really don't have much to say though

:) thanks! I'm one of those guys that reads like a mofo...that's how I found HBT in the first place. The beginners forum rocks and I follow it...don't really understand the darn "is my beer ruined because my airlock isn't bubbling" posts...how in the heck can't you find the answer somewhere in HBT?
Well, that's one post closer!
You all rock

What do you think of Boom Island? I had the Lomomo Palooza from them. I thought it was pretty good. But haven't had any of their other stuff.

Boom Island...and Flat Earth...Harriet too I think...I want to like and I keep trying but haven't had one of those Wow beers from them yet. Surly is Surly and they do an outstanding job...great beer. Favorites? Steel Toe, Lucid and Indeed...Bent Paddle out of Duluth...Barley Johns and Town Hall do a heck of a job (and Town Hall is a block away!). And of course New Glarus...when I get to the cabin (GO PACK GO!):D

Let them know (nicely) that their beer isn't ruined and airlock activity is not a good indicator of fermentation activity. :mug:

When I'm in a helpful mood and feel like responding to posts, I usually click on my account and select unanswered threads. There are a lot of very specific questions that I can't reply to, but a lot of 'real' questions that don't go down the "did I ruin my beer?" Style that the beginners forum is littered with. Of course you have to be on the web browser site to do that...

So I should be looking forward to this?

And you can honestly say you don't want to just punch them in the nose? :)

Sometimes it gets old, like January/February, but I think most of us have been there before. Yooper is awesome at rounding up the new kids and dispensing advice.

But yes, sometimes; especially when they get argumentative about it. "The guy at the shop said..."

I have a War and Peace about 6 feet to my left that I have been wondering about. Age or drink now?

Go for it! It's Saturday! :mug:

Also, in case anyone's thinking about heading to St. Louis Park, MN to visit Steel Toe, make sure you also visit The Four Firkins. They're an amazing bottle shop that gets a ton of unique stuff that's not available at other retailers in the area. When I've been there I've been very impressed with their selection. Just a heads up. :)

I would, but I have a cold and can't smell a damn thing.

I also just received a 32 ounce growler of Odell's Friek this morning as well...so F&*& my life right now. Hope I can kick this overnight and enjoy it tomorrow.

Yes, the Four Firkins is amazing. There is a liquor store right across the border with Wisconsin that is a treasure trove as well. Tons of New Glarus and other stuff that isn't distro'd to MN.

2nd the Four Firkins. Also in SLP is Pizza Luce who always has some great beers on tap.

That liquor store across the border is Casanova. They also have a great little restaurant connected to the store. Cool place and they often have Toppling Goliath.

Four firkins is good..but if you're in the city try the ale jail on st Claire in St. Paul...awesome! And elevated beers on Hiawatha does a great job featuring local beers. 11 to go!

What is the liquor store right over the river in Wisconsin called that I am thinking of?

Also, I am from ND. I drive any distance for beer. I did 3 hours each way for Utopias. I left work and drove straight there.

SWMBO was not nearly as excited as I was.

You don't have to drive so far next time if I can get 9 more posts!
But seriously if you're looking for twin cities beers just let me know
