So, how was the OEC opening today ??? I`m guessing there was a good turnout, but more importantly, how was the beer ?

turnout was very good. was there from 12-3 and line was out the door and a good hour long the entire time.

the beers were very good. My favorites were the berliner and the saison blend.

Here's my bad advice:
I got there last Saturday around 11:30. Probably <10 people waiting for them to open at that point, but a lot more showed up by 12. So if you want to be near the front of the line or in/out quickly that might be the best way. I can't imagine them being as crowded as they were last week (I'm sure this is a stupid thing to say), but there were a lot of people checking it out because it was opening day.

If the line is long when you get there, and you know what you want in growlers before tasting anything, maybe fill out an order sheet and bring it to the growler station, then hop back in line for a flight/pour.

There are tables inside and outside (good if the inside is too crowded and you can grab something from the food truck, although they prefer you don't take glass outside, there are plastic outdoor glasses).

That would probably be solid advice if I could get there before 4. I'll take my chances since I really want try their stuff. A local brewery making sours? Yes please.

I'm going to guess that there MIGHT be some interesting stuff in Great Barrington Mass, like half an hour away. Highly doubtful anything closer. Maybe Torrington? You're like as far away from humanity as it is physically possible to be in CT.

I'd still stop in a CT store if you have time/drive by any decent looking ones. Hopefully you can at least grab some Sea Hag/668... not sure what else worthwhile we get that you wouldn't in NYC.

Yeah, just bringing some good brew with you is the way to go. That being noted, Lakeville is a beautiful small town, so enjoy the scenery. One thing to do there, is check out Limerock Speedway. They are probably open for the season now and you could likely see some sort of event there. And if you make a quick trip to West, you come into Millerton, NY, which has a really nice downtown area with small shops including Irving Farm Coffee.

OEC was pretty laid back this weekend. No crazy lines when I was there at opening. The Expermentalis w/Raspberry turned out really well with tons of raspberry and decent kick of oak. The Novo saison was nice too. If OEC keeps it up with the saisons and sours and NEBCo keeps knocking the hoppy beers out of the park the drive to VT isn't going to be very appealing anymore.

I'd consider the $84 one if they gave some idea of what the releases might be and how many there would be in the year. ~$10 each for 8 guaranteed fills of special release type stuff is reasonable. I don't need to pre-buy $10 fills of a brown ale or IPA though.
