Hi folks,

I have a "newer" keg that I am ready to take apart and thoroughly clean but the poppet valves won't come out. The poppet legs are very firmly attached to the ridge underneath them and thus they don't fall out. I tried pushing on them with a screw driver from the top but I am afraid I will break them.

Any ideas?

I use a small screwdriver and just press firmly until it pops out. I've had them really seem stuck but they always pop out with a good hard push.

Maybe soak them in very hot water to break up any gunk holding it in.

Just remember to place the post on a counter and not try to do it in the palm of your hand...

Ok - the poppet valve broke. Or more to the point one of the legs bent upwards and the whole leg component broke away from the spring portion and went flying.

I used a screwdriver and pushed hard and it wouldn't come out. SO I got a monkey wrench and tapped the top until it popped.

Next time I am just going to use a couple of paper clips bent so they go under the legs and pull them away from the edge.

I had one do that so now I don't take them a part. I soak them in hot water/oxiclean for 30 minutes and blast with hot water. When I sanitize before filling I hook up a ball-lock connect to my racking cain and run starsan thru them for a minute or two.

Take them apart regularly and they will almost fall out when you disassemble them.

I believe there is one style of poppet that has little tabs to hold it in place. maybe that's the style you have...there's some trick/tip to getting them out.

i don't have that style so I can't tell you the trick :(
