Here's a hilarious example of what I am talking about, by my estimation and from other people present, Bottleworks XII and Beret are almost the exact same ******* beer.
Check out these two different reviews from noted reviewer UclabrewN84 spaced apart by three years:
BWXII:
4.27/5 rDev -1.4%
look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5
Bottle pour at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.
Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to dots of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace also form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, spice, wood, and some wine aromas. Taste is much the same but is pretty sour and funky as well. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great beer with a solid aroma and really nice set of flavors that make it easy to drink.

Beret:
3.58/5 rDev -13.5%
look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5
Bottle pour at the LA Beer Week Kickoff Festival held at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a murky orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour with grain, fruit, funk, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour grain, fruit, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but the smell on this one is slightly better to me.
