Thought it was great at the anni party, which is why I bought a bottle

Well I tried Flanders Giant last night. Thought it was pretty good, reminded me of Manhattan NW by Cascade (but not nearly as good).

Sparked a discussion about Flanders Giant. My assumption is that it's their anniversary ale, blended with Oude Tart with possibly cherries thrown in the bright tank. The 2 guys I was drinking the beer with, thought they brewed an entirely new/unique beer for Flanders Giant. That doesn't seem to make sense with the way the Bruery does things, but maybe. Anyone know?

I'd imagine you're correct. It seems to be the Bruery's thing nowadays to blend stuff that they have a ton of lying around. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if instead of Anniversary Ale it was actually some of the infected White Oak Sap cleverly hidden behind one of their sour beers.

*I love a good conspiracy theory.

Wow if anyone described a beer to me that way I'd have assumed they hated it. Manhattan NW was like licking the inside of an oak barrel. Was the newest batch better or something?

I've had that beer twice now, and both times I thought that beer was incredible. Didn't get the inside of an oak barrel taste you experienced.

We had discussed White Oak Sap, but the ABV of FG is higher than White Oak Sap, thus anny ale. Also wasn't getting the white oak belgian-y flavors.

Mélange #11™

9.3% abv
$24.99 $19.99
Purchase Limit: 6 BottlesHoarders Society Exclusive

Mélange #11 was created by your peers at a special blending competition held for our Hoarders Society members. This winning blend combines our sour rye beer with our malty anniversary ale along with sweet dates, spicy cinnamon and earthy anise. The mingled character of this tart and malty beer is like no beer that we have thought of before. Strong licorice flavors waft out the glass, but are subdued by the tartness of the sour beer and the sweet, cake-like flavors that the dates and cinnamon create. This is a phenomenal beer and a testament to the creativity of our Society members.

Chronology:12™

16.7% abv
$29.99 $23.99
Purchase Limit: 6 bottles
Reserve Society Exclusive

Chronology:12 is the second in a four-part experiment with barrels and time. We brewed a beer rich and malty with undertones of brown sugar, toffee and toasted French bread and set it to age in bourbon barrels. Every six months we'll take a quarter of the barrels, blend them and bottle them. This second bottling represents the flavors imparted in the base beer after 12 months of barrel aging.

Sans Pagaie®

6.6% abv
$22.99 $18.39
Purchase Limit: 6 bottles
Society Exclusive

Sans Pagaie is our take on the Belgian-style kriek, which is a traditional, sour blonde ale aged in barrels with cherries. The word "kriek" actually translates to "cherry" in the Flemish language. Sans Pagaie, our clever monicker for this beer, translates from French to "without a paddle" (see what we did there? Kriek/"without a paddle"..... hello, anyone out there?).

The base beer has a subtle funk, which melds gently with the fruit giving this beer flavors reminiscent of coconut, vanilla yogurt and of, course, fresh cherries. A complex beer, perfect for a warm California day in the park with a slice of homemade cheesecake.

Tart of Darkness®

7.2% abv
$19.99 $15.99
Purchase Limit: 6 bottles

Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre™ or Black Tuesday®. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

32 HS releases left in 5 months, pretty curious to see how the rest of the year goes. I really wish renewals were Sept/Oct rather than beginning in a week.

Maybe that's why they're doing it so early this year? Choosing a relatively light month of releases and not dropping it on us in the backloaded 2nd half of the year?

Maybe. For me, the money is less of a concern than the trajectory/ability to fulfill on planned releases. So far, 2015 has been better than 2014 but I'd like to see a Mystery Beer come out and try some of the new Terreux beers to see what kind of concepts they're coming up with and how well they're executing them. Melange #10 was really nice but that was a blending competition beer, not a Bruery creation.

Did you actually get an email about renewals, or was it just the press release to The Full Pint?

Can someone try Melange #11 and let us know how bad it is? Nothing like a bunch of Christmas cake flavors in the heat of summer!
Each time I read that beer's description I note the words "created by your peers" and I immediately feel like thats the Bruery's way of saying "hey this beer is your fault not ours." I also somehow now hate my peers.

I dunno, Melange 10 was really good and the blending competitions have never created something as bad as Roble Blanco. The anise is a bit concerning since it's REALLY easy to overdo that (and I'm someone that actually likes black licorice), but the rest of it sounds good.

Even taking out the anise, I can't say that a soured anniversary beer sounds pleasant at all...

As a first year RS member, they've got some balls asking for membership re-ups while having only released 25% of the promised 2015 lineup.

But it won't matter anyways.

According to the emails that just went out...they are doing this as a service to us members because they expect our wallets to be emptied on the forthcoming allocations.

This bothered me at first and then I read the section about beers to expect in 2016 and popped a boner when I read: "A series of Berliner Weisses."

All to be at least as good as Mango Hottenroth!

Had a taster pour of both M11 and Sans Pagaie last night at Society Member Monday

Took several deep smells of M11 set it back in the taster rack and moved on. If you LOVE overpowering black licorice then maybe you'll like this beer... not a ******* chance I'd buy a bottle

Sans Pagaie on the other hand... I know where I'm spending my money this month

Thanks for the feedback on M11, the Untappd scores were not encouraging and the silence on BA was deafening. There are usually several people talking up new beers on SMM over there, the fact that no one commented on it after I asked spoke volumes.
