Mélange #11 was created by your peers at a special blending competition held for our Hoarders Society members. This winning blend combines our sour rye beer with our malty anniversary ale along with sweet dates, spicy cinnamon and earthy anise. The mingled character of this tart and malty beer is like no beer that we have thought of before. Strong licorice flavors waft out the glass, but are subdued by the tartness of the sour beer and the sweet, cake-like flavors that the dates and cinnamon create. This is a phenomenal beer and a testament to the creativity of our Society members.

Chronology:12 is the second in a four-part experiment with barrels and time. We brewed a beer rich and malty with undertones of brown sugar, toffee and toasted French bread and set it to age in bourbon barrels. Every six months we'll take a quarter of the barrels, blend them and bottle them. This second bottling represents the flavors imparted in the base beer after 12 months of barrel aging.

Sans Pagaie is our take on the Belgian-style kriek, which is a traditional, sour blonde ale aged in barrels with cherries. The word "kriek" actually translates to "cherry" in the Flemish language. Sans Pagaie, our clever monicker for this beer, translates from French to "without a paddle" (see what we did there? Kriek/"without a paddle"..... hello, anyone out there?).
The base beer has a subtle funk, which melds gently with the fruit giving this beer flavors reminiscent of coconut, vanilla yogurt and of, course, fresh cherries. A complex beer, perfect for a warm California day in the park with a slice of homemade cheesecake.

Tart of Darkness®

Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre™ or Black Tuesday®. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.
