Was at Grote Dorst today. Amazing place. Tho prices were definitely great value IMO, it's more expensive than what has been posted on here.

Note that they were out of some of the rarer ones (Van T 'Kasteel, etc)

One of my biggest regrets this first year of living in Europe is not visiting Grote Dorst yet I suck!

Would anyone want to meet at De Heeren on February 25th (next Thursday) to share one or more bottles (probably including Crianza)? I'll be traveling alone and don't really want to shell out a ton of money just to drink a whole 75cl by myself, and good beer is better with company anyway.

If no one takes you up on it, just listen for people speaking English and approach them. That's worked for me pretty much every time I've been to Grote Dorst.

When I went to Grote Dorst it was all locals who were friendly, if very racist. There was a group of crotchety old English people as well on a beer tour.

It was a flippant comment for the sake of attempted humor.

There was an otherwise lovely older couple sitting next to us who hated the French speaking Belgians because they had all the money but didn't actually do any work, hated the Muslim immigrants because they had a ton of kids and lived off of welfare, and asked us if the problems we had in the Bay Area were because of "the colored people." The last one was fun because one of the biggest problems in the Bay Area is actually white people having too much money, displacing the poorer, often "ethnic" people. (Excuse the oversimplification of the last bit, I think we understand what I was getting at)

The biggest problem in the bay area is that essentially no city is willing to build adequate housing, which leads to the thing you cited.

Agreed with all. We brought up the "blame white people" as more of a lighthearted rebuttal instead of trying to get into deep discussions about housing stock, mass transit, NIMBYism, the tech sector, building level restrictions, etc.

Overall, I'd just stick to visiting the breweries themselves, and skip bottle shops. That being said, I bought a Hommage at Etre Gourmet's physical shop so that was fun.

Yeah, there might be honey holes out there but I doubt it and it's going to be heavily timing-based. I think that in 2016 there just aren't any secrets left. **** that worked in 2012 just doesn't any more, and that's weird to think about. Oh well.

The Etre shop has some good finds if you ask when you visit. Got a Mure just the other day. Plus they will now ship your beer back to the States for you if you want.

I meant to mention this awhile back, but when in Brussels, I highly recommend Nuetnigenough for great food and a stellar beer list: http://www.nuetnigenough.be/

Best part was the Cantillon Kriek ice cream that actually tastes like the kriek (vs. stews with gueuze that just kinda taste like stew).

My understanding is that if people are going to the church across the street, Grote Dorst is open.

Easter Monday is a thing in Europe? Are you sure you didn't mean Easter Sunday? Also, Grote Dorst should be open Easter Sunday, right? Their website says they're open every Sunday and Church Holidays.

I definitely meant Monday. Religious Holidays hold much more weight and what might be considered a 'Bank' Holiday in the States all businesses take here. It even states on Cantillons website that they will be closed that day.
