Beer Spraying Out of Gas Side

So I kegged two beers today by bringing the pressure up to 25psi and rocking them back and forth for about 3 minutes or so. Ive seen videos where they purge the keg after about 30 minutes, but when I try to do it, I get beer spraying everywhere. I have pin locks btw. Do I just need to wait 24 hours then purge?

Just for time reference, I force carbed them at 3 pm and tried purging at 7, still getting spray.

Is the beer still warm? If so, give it time to chill.

Is your beer cold? If not, then that may be part of the problem. It it is cold, then you probably overfilled the keg, and the gas tube is submerged in beer. If the gas "dip" tube is submerged, of course beer blows out when you press the gas poppet.

Beer was cold going in, and I prechilled the kegs.

So if the dip tube is submerged, do I just purge it with a towel or something in order to get it out of the 25psi zone?

I don't think they're submerged though, as I had about a half gallon of trub left in the buckets on a 5.5gal batch.

Pour off a few pints until the liquid tube is below the liquid.

FWIW - I've put PRVs on all my pin lock kegs.

Hi. I also use pin-locks and I've cut off my gas in dip tubes to just below the top. Normally, they stick in about 1/2 - 1" and could easily get swamped by the beer. If you want to trim yours, use a simple tube cutter, and then deburr the inside of the dip tube. Hope this helps. Ed


ETA: Or, do like @Peruvian802 and use lids with PRVs.

Yep. Pretty much all you can do is drink a flat pint or two. Ed

So do I just hook up the liquid line without gas? I know if i hook up the gas now, it'll blow back into my regulator.

Use the beer side as a blow off. Capture the liquid for taste testing.

Just cleared the first few pints of both, cloudy as he'll so they would have been poured anyway. Hooked up to 12 psi and were good to go. Thanks for the help!
