Got damn, the hate for Cascade seems rill. All I'm saying, Bourbonic Plague, Manhattan NW, etc... are ******* awesome.
Cascade is fun but I don't think it stands up to other options named. If you're up there for a few days and have plenty of time, absolutely hit it and have some draft pours. If it's a quick weekend trip, it wouldn't make my personal cut, Portland has too many other good choices.

I'd also add Apex as an essential stop - especially when combined with a stop at BeerMongers since they're across the street from each other - and Horse Brass for lunch with a stop at Belmont Station for tasters/bottle shopping right after is a good way to start a Saturday.

Skipping cascades seems crazy, any reason? IMO their beers are incredible and incredibly expensive via bottle but reasonable on tap.
just years of trying their stuff and getting bored with the same lacto profile. watching the prices go up to unsavory amounts on draft and in bottle hasn't helped, either. definitely go if you're a fan, but it's become more of a tourist trap than a locals joint anymore.

Upright & GN, after that, Just go to rev Nat's

skip Cascade.

breweries:
Great Notion
Upright Brewing
The Commons
Culmination/Ruse Brewing

beer bars:
Tin Bucket
Growler Guys
Beermongers
I liked Breakside brewing quite a bit as well.

The other bars I dug were Baily's and the bar right above Bailey's. Killer bottle selection at the top bar. Beer O'clock also had a great tap list and EVERYTHING was crowlerable.

I would def put Great Notion above all else in Portland, but I still try to make a stop at Cascade as well whenever I visit (twice per year usually). The taplist is always stacked with special and vintage stuff and it's located near a lot of other good spots. Also, Supracot is probably my favorite apricot beer I've ever had. Looks like they haven't made it for a few years, tho.

Diesel might be the best beer Cascade makes.

Damn, that one has eluded me. I also love the Glueh kriek. Served hot with mulled spices.

Re: Fieldwork cans. I've bitched about it in the Fieldwork thread a while back. They update their each site's taplist daily and post enough on social media to at least let us know when cans are out at various locations. You can order a crowler online but have to call to ask if cans are available? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Mmmmm, Cascade dark sours are my favorite.

The hype machine is alive and well with that brewery. Solid adjunct and wheat flour-filled beer, but the line and crowds are stupid sometimes. At least you can hit Pine State to fill up before waiting in line for your beetus.

The Commons

RIP in peace. Sad to hear they're going away; lately they've been the best bang-for-your-buck in Portland. Maybe the $10 750s of chuggable sours weren't a great business model? But they're damn good.

I do think that Cascade is worth a visit, at least once. It's a cool space and you can try a ton of their beers, eventually determining that yes, they're all very similar.

My personal fav is Upright. Top-tier sours in a dark basement surrounded by brewing equipment and about four tables? Sign me up. Always get great **** there too, like old bottles of Fantasia or some uber-small bottle count Sole Comp. Not a huge selection, but a great experience. Plus if you're lucky, box_social will **** you up on some Shut the Box for free.

It's probably easier to manage the inventory driving crowlers (i.e., kegs) vs. cans which may run out at any time during the day.

Personally, I love their model. Great social media presence, tons of great beer on tap, and regularly-changing can offerings to go. Better than 99% of the breweries in the Bay Area.

Oh, I'm sure it would be tougher to manage and I agree that they do a great job with everything else in terms of communication. Honestly, it's because they're so good with that stuff that I don't think it's too much to ask. If they were very limited with social media and communication, I would be ok with it being more of a crapshoot.

If you thought Bruery was unhip around these parts, Cascade makes Bruery look like SARA. If you like their stuff, by all means go. Especially for draft prices, as you note.

I had fun at that place across the street from Cascade too. Green Dragon or something? I'm not a local, so that might be a ****** rec. It was behind a botanical brewery or something but looked like it was part of the same building.

green dragon is owned by Rogue and unfortunately Buckman Botanical is no more.

fwiw I heard the Cascade/Bruery collab that was tapped and released this week is exceptional.

Did an organized bike ride event out in San Ramon today. There were 3 breweries from Livermore there and the ending oarty, including Shadow Puppet. Must say I was impressed with Shadow Puppet. Anyone been there, share my feelings? Hows the taproom, worth a trek from Berkeley?

There is a store in Alameda that currently has a couple of Cellador beer on the shelf.

They are going fast, i guess people are already aware of them.

Owner got some cases to sell, ikely a one off.

Ryan_G they still have a tonne of the Alvarado kettle sour.

I've been going since they first opened. Started out or miss with a few beers, but they have progressively been getting better with their beers over the past few months. Honestly, I must say they have one of the finest tap rooms I've ever been in, and I've been to a **** ton.

They also have an imperial stout in bourbon barrels, and a saison in wine barrels that should be put sometime before the end of the year, might be worth a trek out, and hitting up Altamont too since it's Altamont.
