Smuggled in?
hahahahaha!

actually I went to a whiskey event there bc they brew the distillers wash for the rye my friend makes, and they had it on draft. it was a wine barrel aged golden sour with cherries - they only made one barrel's worth.

again - I was surprised.

Has Born Yesterday shown up down there yet? I went to my local store today and they had a poster advertising it but nothing on the shelves. I asked, and the guy working there basically said "soon".

They haven't announced the exact date yet but have said a day between Oct. 13 and 31, I think?

Can we talk about how impressive the canned beers from Speakeasy are? Pop Gun is a great American Pilsner, and Baby Daddy is better than any regularly available session IPA in Northern California.

What on earth happened? This is the biggest improvement I can imagine from a local brewer.

I was really impressed with Baby Daddy. And that can design has to be one of the best out there. I love how it looks.

Shocked to hear this. I haven't had a Speakeasy beer before that I didn't think was borderline terrible.

Well that was a fun trip. Entirely zero plans around releases but managed to have some good timing. Brought home some SARA, Fieldwork, RR, & Cellarmaker to s̶h̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ dome.

Narrowly missed the window for Tiny Dankster growlers. That was drinking exceptionally well for an already exceptional beer. Fieldwork would be my Societe if I lived in the east bay, Cellarmaker if I lived in the city. Partial bias to Fieldwork for friends.

I might come back. Sooner than later hopefully. I'll try to meet up with more peeps.

Might head up Friday, but just hide out in SF if not.

Rode it a few years ago, it is a great ride.

Have you done any of the Grasshopper Adventure series up here, http://www.grasshopperadventureseries.com/?

New flow trail at Soquel Demonstration Forest in SC.

http://www.mbosc.org/local-parks/soquel-demo-forest/

BTW that Flow Trail was THE ****! Put in a couple killer mtb days in Santa Cruz/Aptos. Thursday afternoon playing in the Redwoods by UCSC then finishing home riding right along the cliffs and riding through downtown Santa Cruz was a great day. Seriously still kinda blown away by the trailwork done in Demo...and not a soul out there. Could have backfired immensely. Rode out there through the Aptos Creek Fire Road and came back down West Ridge trail something or other.

Need to return with friends...wait no. Nobody else can know.

That's an epic loop. 13 mile climb and then demo and then one of the best poaches in the area :).

Haven't had it yet, but I suppose "regularly available" is what makes this bold statement have some legs. So we're not talking Mini Seperation Anxiety or Crush-A-Bale, but it's better than supermarket SIPAs like Daytime, Easy Jack, GoTo, and Pinner. Good enough for me. Excited to try it, thanks for the head's up.

Yep, exactly!

What's tasty at Fieldwork these days? Might be visiting Berkeley sometime soon...

EVERYTHING! haha.

Salted Watermelon Gose is super crooshable. Watershed and Misfit Stream are also solid. Storm Surge is 9.9% and tastes like 8 at best.

Keep your ears to the ground for Barrel Aged things soon.

It's not Ben's style, but I think their chocolate milk stout (on nitro, natch - though it is pretty good on draft as well) is about as good as you can get in that category of beer.

You're right its not my style, but its very delicious. Only visit Fieldwork once in a while so of course I have to try the board (and the tanks) if I'm in the area for a couple days. Barrel Aged Eliza piques my interest as well.

Chocolate Milk Stout is almost ubiquitous in the Peninsula / South Bay, and if it is not on, then their Golden Milk Stout is on. It seems that Alex pretty much owns the milk / sweet stout style in the Bay Area at this point.
