It's just as well, wouldn't want to have you wait that long. I'm not even out of Oakland yet, I made a pit stop in the Mission district for rice wrapped in a spongy tortilla and foil.

Oh **** the Burrito RACE WAR is back.

China for vacation? Work? Spreading the Julianplz gospel?

(It was as good as one might want port Vastness to be. And by coincidence, I'm in Geyserville tomorrow! Might check this Angelica whatnot out at the source.)

Farolito is for frat bros. castillito and cancun are the only choices.

That makes me sad. I generally like Cancun more but I didn't know Farolito was filled with frat bros... has it always been like that? When I go it seems like a normal Mission crowd, i.e. anyone and everyone.

If any of you live in the East Bay, i've got three empty 12-bottle shippers that are yours for the taking if you come pick them up in North Oakland. They're the thick styrofoam kind. Just sent me a PM, and we'll work out logistics.

I can do the same for the Peninsula. Have 4 extras.

Wasn't that impressed with anything tbh. Somebody mentioned previously how they came with an empty growler and left without getting it filled. I'm in the same boat. Post Coast IPA was the best offering, followed by Visitation Pils. Way Fun IPA and Totes Pale both unremarkable. No bold flavors, all kinda middle of the road brews. It is a great space and I'm not writing them off completely however. I'll definitely be back, I'm just on the side that thinks they need a little more time to come into their own before I write them off.
That was me. Post Coast is their newest. The fact that it was their best suggests they are improving. Looking forward to going back in about a month.

Also, thanks for posting, I am meeting buddies in Oakland and have yet to determine the spot. Was considering trying them but will probably stick with downtown.

[EDIT] How many people younger than 6 were there?

I went to Temescal on Saturday, tried everything new on the board, wasn't impressed with anything besides the mild. But I didn't want a growler of the mild for the 4th so I just used one of my freebies on Way Fun, which I thought was fine-but-not-exciting. Thing is, drinking it out of the growler, I liked it more, putting it on par with anything Cellarmaker does (keep in mind that I'm a Cellarmaker "hater" in that I think their IPAs are "only" very good, not world-class). Before drinking we got a sandwich from Bakesale Betty's*, so I think that might've jacked my palette, I dunno.

Anyway I get that they're not quite at Fieldwork level from the get-go, but it's one of a handful of beer places I can bring my kid so I'll be going there a lot. Plus Wade draws cool cats.

*Aside, but there was 0 line for BB's, and when I was living down the street the days without a line down the block were ridiculously rare. Has this changed lately or did we just get lucky?

Been meaning to go to BSB's or BB's or whatever, but the hype turned me off. I'm also curious as to whether or not it is less obnoxious to dine there now.

I used to stop by there all the damn time back when they first opened - as opposed to the fried chicken sammy machine the place is now, they used to be open from morning (with coffee, cookies, scones, and dem Lamingtons) til evening (to snag a chicken potpie to-go) - the fried chicken thing was just a fraction of what they made, though the lunch crush was always a thing. And the proprietors (Mike and Alison a.k.a. Betty) were the nicest folks - I'm sure they still are, but haven't been back in years. Screw that lunch line.

Wasn't too bad. Less than a dozen, and there's plenty of space out back so they're not really getting in the way. Dog friendly too so there are usually a couple of those hanging out.

Lunch line looks scary but really isn't that bad. Fried chicken sandos are all lined up, there are two registers, and it moves pretty quickly.
