So I ordered a barley crusher a little over 2 weeks ago. I was not discouraged by seeing the "please wait 1-2 weeks for shipment" statement on the site since the mill has gotten plenty of good reviews.

It has now passed the 2 week mark and when I emailed inquiring about the order I did not get a response.

Just wondering how long other people have waited recently. I searched and found that one person waited 26 days to get it and another waited 20 days for it to SHIP.

Took a few weeks (if I am remembering properly).

Four days from Norhern Brewer.

Seems like other people have had better success from vendors and not from the manufacturer. I guess this is what I get for trying to directly support someone's business instead of going through a middleman.

There's some issues evidently with BC's these days. I don't know the specifics, but places like Adventures in Homebrewing have now started carrying alternatives to it. You may have seen threads about the "Cereal Killer" grainmill popping up on here, that is one of the alternatives that has replaced the BC.

I know that Adventures had sent out a FB message a couple months back explaning the reason behind looking for a replacement but can't find or even recall the reason, if it was production shortages or distribution issues or what. But the cereal killer is also only 99 bucks, and the reviews on the threads on here are saying it's actually a "tighter" machine in terms of quality.

Here's one of the FB posting about it- But they had more info on the website when you clicked the link of FB...but that stuff is gone now.

Cereal Killer Grain Mill-The Cereal Killer Grain Mill With the unavailability of our home town Barley Crusher we have looked for a temporary replacement...and it looks like we have found one! Adjustable 2 roller grain mill with hopper and base Only $99.00

There they are just alluding to "availability issues."

But I did find this on the Barley Crusher's own website-

Please note: Due to a recent and unexpected influx of orders, all new orders may be delayed up to 2 weeks before shipment.

We realize this is an inconvenience, especially for new customers, but it is important to us that the Barley Crusher is a hand-made American product of quality craftsmanship. We will not take shortcuts.

Thank you for your patience, and continued support!

"Out for delivery" is the phrase used on tracking reports when the item or items is on the truck and will be delivered that day. At least that has always been the case for me with UPS or FedEx, and I've always gotten the stuff that day.

In terms of the issue in the OP, my impression of many suppliers of homebrewing equipment is that they are not large, and thus supply can be a problem, depending on demand at any given time. And in these days of JIT manufacturing and keeping costs down by minimal inventories, this kind of situation is predictable. If I needed an item quickly, I'd call or e-mail around until I found one in stock, and buy that. Of course, chances are I'd pay more, but that's the way it goes.....

I can understand the situation and I had no issue with the 1-2 week delay statement. What is aggravating is when you email the person to inquire, after the "grace" period, and they do not respond.

Well, this isn't going to be an encouragement to anyone. I put an order through the special offer posted on BeerSmith.com. I received my PayPal receipt, but I have heard nothing from the folks over at BarleyCrusher. Oh yeah, that was 8 weeks ago.

I'm considering getting my money back from PayPal and ordering from someone else.

Took a month from Austin brew, said it came directly from BC. I was impatiant too.they hand make when you order it.

i exchanged emails with BC when the weeks passed with no word and got no response until i filed a complaint with paypal then he sent me an email asking if i wanted the BC or a refund. it's a great mill but they need some help with the website. if they would make clear that no emails will be answered then you won't wonder as much, not hearing a thing for weeks makes you wonder if they are even in business. i said as much in the email...and never heard back. lol. love my barley crusher though.

I think this AND the arrival of the Cereal Killer is going to really hurt the company. It's kinda sad because they're an american made product AND a made in Michigan one. But in a sense they're digging their own grave. I'm sure this isn't the only forum discussing this and stuff like that can kill a small company.

exactly, and it could be easily remedied with a little communication. most people want to support a small business and are willing to wait but when the weeks drag on and no word you start getting aggravated.

I didn't have to wait long at all. Bought it at my lhbs, lol.

Cost the same after shipping and left with the first batch of grain to run through it. Instant gratification.......

Brewmasters Warehouse always keeps a few in stock (they say) I ordered one from them & had it at my door in about 4 days. I was pleasantly surprised, I expected to wait a lot longer

Mine was waiting on my doorstep today..I was planning on waiting a couple weeks and it took a little longer but I can't say my experience was negative, of course I didn't wait as long as some of you though and the email thing would make me upset. I like it though...worth the wait as far as I'm concerned.

I ordered in beginning of September and got it mid/late October.

I had fired off an email to see what the ETA was and it never was replied to.

they should just put a blanket statement of expect a 3-4 week lead time plus shipping time to get your BC

-=Jason=-

It took about three weeks for mine to arrive. I ordered it Sunday October 23rd and it arrived at my door on Monday November 7th. I live way down here in Texas and I believe it ships out from close to the Michigan/Canada border.

I still plan on ordering one here shortly. Well Santa is ordering one anyways.

I dont mind the wait. I work in a small company myself, and get that some stuff takes time if its to be done right, and sometimes a little lee-way is needed.

I've gotta encourage everyone to view this as a chance to practice their patience.

ALTHOUGH, the zero communication would irk me as well.

But thanks to this thread I know enough to order mine soon. Like this weekend!

About 3 weeks for mine as well, I knew it would be awhile so I didn't email him. Nice crusher!

Our club put in a group buy with them for 15 of these and got a decent discount. It did take awhile and I had to e-mail them 2-3 times at a crack before I got a response. Then I was missing about half of my handles when I finally did get it. Waiting isn't an issue for most people as long as expectations are set appropriately.
