air lock substitutions

I just broke my airlock and racked my pumpkin ale to my secondary carboy. My local home brew store is not open until saturday. I think the main fermentation is done since it has not bubbled in 2 days. Could I just roll paper towel or something up real tight to put in the carboy plug where the air lock would normally go? If not please give me other suggestions!!! thanks

Use a piece of sanitized aluminum foil wrapped loosely over the top. It will be fine.

go grab some tubing at your hardware store that will fit snugly into the top of the carboy. get about 4 feet. Sanitize and shove one end into the carboy and drop the other end into a bucket/bowl of water. Done!

Of course a little saran wrap would work too...

+1 used this method many times when my airlocks where all busy elsewhere. (Have since bought more airlocks)

A piece of foil, sprayed with sanitizer prior to being placed over the mouth of the carboy.

I saw that the thread was ancient, and wondered what is the forum guideline for resurrecting older threads like that in order to get a simple response. I had seen sanitized foil mentioned in several other threads, without anyone saying exactly what it is. Appears it is simply cleaned tin foil. I guess I could have just started a new post and just asked.

I do search for many answers to questions I have, and many people still use acronyms that Newbies would not be familiar with. I saw mention of a Newbie sticky in one thread, but there is nothing atop the beginners forum to stop nuts like me asking questions that have surely been asked over and over.

A sticky with a newbie brewers guide might reduce the number of posts like mine. Or at least one pointing to those posts that help best in areas of fermentation, bottling, hopping etc. Perhaps it exists already, and someone can point me to it.

I never have a problem with folks that eschew mindless thread proliferation and actually find an existing thread to append...
