Morning. Are we getting 20k done today?

At least the HR guys knows he doesn't have a case. The boss can still make your life miserable though.

My main complaint is that it won't be in the 20k box you'll be sending me.

Yes. Most likely.

He already does. This will make it worse for a while. Luckily I have a warehouse expansion just getting under way so he'll be up my anus already.

Need a HB swap thread. Only HB, any extras are on the sender, no obligations other than ~4 12 oz. homebrews.

Seems I'm coming down with a cold. But I have too much work to be able to take time off. Great.

Would you say...

Since people seem generous with their brewing insight today and I'm looking to get the ball rolling... any suggestions? Was going to mash at 152.. probably add a half pound of sugar. Appreciate any advice, I already have these ingredients but can pick up others/remove whatever.

Here's my first stout:

10 lb German - Pale Ale
1 lb American - Roasted Barley
0.5 lb American - Chocolate
0.25 lb American - Midnight Wheat Malt

2 oz Northern Brewer
S-04

Anyone ever ship beer in those long tube shippers?

Got one the other day, and looks like 12 cans would fit perfectly in there, almost just want to try it.

These things:

I think it's improbable that it would stall out.

If we hit 19,990 and even 10 of us would try to post at the same time, someone would snag 20k.

I dont know. That would work within a box, but I would be wary of shipping them as is. With the amount of abuse a square box gets coming to me I would be afraid they would be staging lightsaber battles with them or something. Or pretending to be you and using them like fighting sticks.

I've seen it done before without an issue, but wouldn't you want to keep them around as spares, just incase your bend your cardboard sword tube?

I like that idea. If I ever get to brew again I would like to participate.

Wait what? Definitely don't go adding sugars to a stout. I'd just mash higher and maybe swap some crystal for 1/2lb of the dark malts. Right now that's a super roasty dry dry dry stout

Ha! Also, I see you too @drunklejon .

I actually have another shinai on order (should arrive today), just in case I end up breaking mine over someone's head at the tournament.

13 more days!

That's exactly what he's going for.

FWIW CAD, I agree here... probably wouldn't add any sugar.

Something I'm going to do on my next stout is add the roast malt to the spare, similar to Gordon Strong's method for a smoother bitterness. Agree, need some more crystal in there for balance.

If you bastards hit 20k while I'm at work...

You're not helping your cause... :D

I think it's unlikely anyway. Would be best if it was right around 6-7 pm Eastern time, that way almost everyone will be around for it.

Chuck a lb. or two of oats in there for body and I think you'd be golden. The sugar's going to thin it out a little, I'm afraid.

Here's Hobbit Toes III

10 lb. 2-row
2 lb. White wheat
1 Lb rolled oats
Mash at 148

.75 oz Magnum @ 60
.5 oz Cascade @30
1 oz. Nelson Sauvin @ FO
1oz Nelson hop stand at 170*

Belle Saison slurry, no temp control, range was 65 up to 75. It's at 1.010 as of yesterday. I'm checking again tomorrow
