Was it salty black licorice? Or just plain old nasty black licorice? My wife loves the salty stuff. It's a Scandinavian thing. I could probably have her rattle off a dozen different brands. Makes me want to hurl.

Don't think it was salty. It was decades ago though so I really dont know. All I remember is it came in a cardboard box (i think it may have had a mylar type of bag inside) and were chew style. Dark green to black.

Good n plenty. They look like Mike n Ikes

Ick. That aint no licorice

My grandfather always had these foul things to share with me.

That looks terrible. Kinda like good n plentys.

Everyone's still talking about nasty black licorice? Dang, branch out, find some better candy. Live a little!
@drunklejon , have you checked this site out yet?

Its funny how polarizing black licorice is.

Looked through both. didnt look like what I remember but what do I know. Think I will ask my mom this weekend. She would know.

I couldn't live without the free, free-range eggs I get from home. Can't taste a difference, but knowing they are healthy is a huge bonus. They are however oddly different. They are often twice the size of store bought eggs, usually find one double yolk per dozen and they are nearly impossible to hard-boil. My parents buy a cow once a year and we just buy meat from them now usually. We used to raise one every few years but aside from the emotional distress of having your pet that you once bottle fed slaughtered, it's just too much work for my parents now that all the boys are moved out.

If I could find a damn job that would allow me to work from home, I'd buy property out there, grow hops, and have a small family farm like I grew up on. Some day, maybe, unlikely.

To be able to hard boil an egg its best to use older eggs. The trick that the supermarkets have is that most of the eggs you buy are weeks old or older already (a truly fresh egg does not have that air pocket in it). Older eggs release from the shells easier and have a little air space in them so the shells dont burst when cooking.

I am an idiot, took motorcycle in to work today. Looks like it will be in the 20s for my ride back home tonight. I need a beer. 2.5 hours left till I can head home.

Ayup. Works wonders (see below).
Oh, and - stalker!

Ha. Figured you'd like that. And my god, it really does work wonders. Been doing cross friction rolling of my calves and quads and it's the worst thing ever, but the range of motion and strength increase afterwards is incredible. That and hard ball upper body rolling. I've got a straight roller, I need to get a knurled one for my hamstrings. They need it badly, and someone stole the knurled one at my gym.

Oat Mild pin dead. On to this.

On to the good stuff. Gonna have to take a break for a bit.

Complete opposite end of the spectrum from the Wadworth. This is so very, very hoppy for a Bitter. Even getting a gin/juniper note in this context. Love it.

Got 1 oz of French oak medium toast in some whiskey. Let that sit for a few weeks and toss it in my RIS. Pretty excited.

No pic because the site is being dumb.

@Qhrumphf thanks man. It's just a back issue...I don't even have a good drunk story for it.

@mattmmille 's root beer. Don't know how long it's been in the fridge and I hope it was truly non-alcoholic since I just popped a bunch of motrin. :D

Motrin and beer are made for each other, as in taking care of the hangover.

When you get out the narcotic stuff is when it starts getting a little weird.

That looks like a lot of fun. Hope it's a traveling exhibit headed towards Denver.

HB Oktoberfest- might need to dump 1/2 the keg as it's been sitting for awhile. Or maybe I can call it an Irish red for my BMC swilling neighbors....

It's most likely a traveling exhibit. I've never heard of it until now.

It's been awhile since I made any! How was it? I used the stuff from the LHBS and thought it was okay originally, but better in the bottle longer.

Dump? Why would you do that? Incredible looking beer. Love that foamy head. Like an ice-cream float. Get a stein and kill the 1/2 keg in 10 beers.

3rd pint of HB wannabepils lager. Really liking this beer now that I stopped trying to compare it to a german pils. It's extremely refreshing and dry. Surprising because it finished like 1.012 yet is so dry. This yeast, boy I tell you hwat.

Why's it a wannabe? Did you adjunct the flock out of it? I could be wrong but with an FG at 1.012 it is more BoPils territory. Not made one of those yet.

How does it look?

My son just airbrushed the final coat of paint on his pinewood derby car, he did a great job handling the airbrush.

Now I have to stay up and clear coat it because I am etching BB-8 into it tomorrow.

This Julius is great.

Because of the american lager yeast I used, just a totally different flavor profile.

Looks good, definitely chill haze still. Young in the keg and no gelatin.

Not the prettiest of pics, but damn that was a great dinner:

Made quinoa and then folded in some roasted red peppers, olives, feta, roasted garlic, evoo. Then pita bread with jalapeno hummus, grilled chicken, more olives/feta, romaine. Gott damn. Had tomaters too but forgot about em.

Got all the feta, olives, roasted peppers etc from the bulk olive bar at the grocers too. Spend like $4 maybe? Was awesome. Buying that stuff packaged is so stupid expensive and then you waste half of it anyways.

Damn I love beer. You love beer? Can we all bow our heads in appreciation of beer? In the name of the father, the spirit and the holy DEM I pray unto thee.

Black licorice?

If it was I'd eat the whole thing. Looks like a black pool noodle. Watcha doing with a black pool noodle, at this time of year, at those latitudes, isolated solely within your kitchen? Maybe it's pipe insulation from Grainger.

Food looks good. But come on John why you gotta drink your Murica pils from a DEM glass. Still pining for it?

Much like there's no wrong Murica can do, there's no wrong way to pronounce it. America, Merica, Murica, Merc, Heaven. Whatever.

Good to know. :)
