Coffee. Def gonna need to replace some windows in this house we bought; it's close to zero out and these windows next to my kitchen Table are super drafty

I was in New Hampshire a few years back for work, the first week of December non the less. A nor'easter was passing through and the temp got down in the negative range.

That's when I found out that the North is not for me, I'll come back when it's warmer.

Anyone want to come over and do my design assignment so I can go into the garden and do fun stuff like sand and varnish my garden bar ready for spring?

Trying to mock up my red pale ale recipe. Want something that isnt too fruity or citrusy. Looking at simcoe but not sure what else to use. Challenger isnt available at ritebrew otherwise id add that. Any suggestions? I'm looking for more of a piney forward pale, nothing too crazy pine though. I do have Columbus on hand which I thought I could use to balance it out a little.

Edit: NVM, going simcoe, columbus and centennial. Thanks for the help. :D

I'd go Centiennial, Columbus, and Simcoe. Looks better in order.

Funny, that's what I was going to suggest. I really enjoy Columbus in a red beer.

Extra special blend this morning. Just mashed in. Drinking what I'm brewing.

I actually started thinking about what west coast beers were sort of like what I was looking for and Pliney popped in my head. Those are the three hops listed in the clone recipe here so I was sold haha.

Uh, good thinking! :mug:

Here's the recipe. Just ordered a bag of Best Maltz Red X to do some experimenting with. Doing this pale, probably a saison, an IPA, and hopefully have enough for a sour as well.

Brew Method: All Grain
Style Name: American Pale Ale
Boil Time: 60 min
Batch Size: 6.5 gallons (ending kettle volume)
Boil Size: 8.5 gallons
Boil Gravity: 1.049
Efficiency: 77% (ending kettle)

STATS:
Original Gravity: 1.064
Final Gravity: 1.016
ABV (standard): 6.3%
IBU (tinseth): 31.44
SRM (morey): 14.56

FERMENTABLES:
15 lb - German - Red X (100%)

HOPS:
0.5 oz - Columbus, Type: Pellet, AA: 15, Use: Boil for 60 min, IBU: 22.14
0.5 oz - Simcoe, Type: Pellet, AA: 12.7, Use: Boil for 15 min, IBU: 9.3
0.5 oz - Centennial, Type: Pellet, AA: 10, Use: Boil for 0 min
1 oz - Simcoe, Type: Pellet, AA: 12.7, Use: Boil for 0 min
1 oz - Columbus, Type: Pellet, AA: 15, Use: Dry Hop for 5 days
1 oz - Simcoe, Type: Pellet, AA: 12.7, Use: Dry Hop for 5 days
1 oz - Centennial, Type: Pellet, AA: 10, Use: Dry Hop for 5 days

Using 1056 to get a clean malt/hop profile. Any suggestions? Maybe more centennial at flameout?

Sorry, I have a small touch of OCD.

It should be illegal to be walking out the door at this hour.

I do it to myself.

FTFY. Which comp?

Coffee at son's hockey practice. 7:30 is too early, especially when it's 0° out.

I am sooooo there. Eldest's rifle practice started at 0500. There was more than once that I sacked out in the car in the parking lot.

Not sure if I mentioned I'm in charge of 26 8th grade boys the weekend. They don't sleep. I think I got 2 hours in.

See the response to @Qhrumphf

True. Whats those sites again??

Urm... I have a line on a local distributer that has SOME of those guezy things if you are interested. Don't know if it will save you with shipping.

Cafe. School play at matinee, prepping for 10 gallons of lambic brewing tomorrow.

Virginia Beer Blitz down at St. George in Hampton Roads.

Back home trying to thaw out. Can't feel my toes.

Drank only a tiny bit of the coffee stout before passing out on the couch last night. Drinking that when I can feel my extremities again.

Im brewing today. Gotta run to the brewstore first. Picking up some hops and a bunch of brown malt. Still no idea what I'm going to do with it yet.

Thinking:
2Row
Maybe 10% brown?
5% pale choc
Some med crystal
think some biscuit is needed or does the brown give enough?

Probably 1.050 range, 25 or 30ibu. Prolly gonna suck. Whatever, least it won't be made in warm plastic carboys.
