I use a Hach Pro+

Both it and the Miliawakee mention by Qhrumphf pass all the selection criteria given by the folks in the know
  • 2 point calibration
  • Manual calibration (you decide not the device when to grap the calibration pt.)
  • Replacable electrode
  • Reading stability
  • Resolution 0.01
  • Accuracy +/-0.01 (Not quite true as accuracy is typically measured in RMS values)

All pH meters adjust for temperature. Temperature is one of the factors which affects pH and the device can't spit out a pH value without measuring the sample temperature. All ATC means is that it will give the pH at a given temperature. It's like saying my car came with an engine.

Typically pH readings should be recorded and compared at room temperature. That is the convention but it is not followed by all authors.

Temperature extremes are not good for a pH meter's probe. Best to cool the little sample for sake of probe longevity and reproducibility of data.

My meter, buffer pillows and cleaning soln. (don't need storage soln with the Hach Pro+)

I swear it's not my fault. Fins keeps goading me in.

You rock, minus the car engine comment. My cheap ass ph meter doesn't adjust for temp, only has a desirable range.

Sorry for the car quip.

All meters measure the sample temperature. It is not possible to measure pH without a temperature as pH is dependent on temperature. If your meter doesn't measure temperature then it is not measuring the pH. No way around that.

A meter needs to measure the H+ gradient and the temperature. Without both pH is unknown. Even if it's not showing the temperature it is reading it and doing the math and generating a number.

Here is a total piece of junk with ATC. They all have it. It's just marketing blah.

Also your meter's specs state it compensates for temperature manually which makes no sense.

77F. That's the temp. 25C. So yeah, my <90F is definitely close enough ;) It's usually 85-87F when I'm reading the sample.

Also the MW102 spits out C, not F, but requires toggling to a different screen. I never use it, aside from using the temp probe both when calibrating and when reading the sample.

Damn you for always being right. I was just hoping my cheap pH meter would prove you wrong. :D

Well hell I can't upload. Wifi sucks. Cell signal sucks. Suck.

Hopadillo on a smoke break. Koi pond will have to wait.

Far from it I'm just sharing what I've learned from others far more knowlegable than I and then doing a bit of digging to explore the science for my own perverted enjoyment.

I am no authority on anything brew related, just wouldn't want you to waste your money buying some junk because of a slight misunderstanding of what ATC is. Sorry if I came across as total ar$e-headed git.

I get all excited when I see the friendly place turn to science. Never happened in the unmentionable thread. I wouldn't have been allowed.

I'm all for science, especially sll for brew science. It gets me six to midnight in no time

Damn this is good. No wonder Ohio is ipa capital of the world. My wife smelled it and said "wow if I didnt hate beer I would drink this" may not sound like a ringing endorsement but coming from the woman who told me Saison DuPont smells like urine it's high praise.

Proper response: "if you drank it, maybe you wouldn't hate beer anymore." :)

That is a good one though.

Take that back! Nobody here has feelings enough to have them hurt enoigh to have our thread cancelled

I'm offended sir. I have more feelings than this entire site combined. I've got so many feelings it upsets me just to think about how many feelings I have. So sad. But super happy because I've got enough beer in front of me that says I don't need to have feelings at least until tomorrow.
