Make sure you let them know you don't think all hops are created equal.
Coffee. Morning dudes.

On a serious note, how did you store those hops?

Haha! As a friend, I wouldn't do that to you.
But, you will have to pay for Saturday's bet. :D

You are too kind sir!

Anything in particular you want or dont want? Have you had the new stuff from Tallgrass (Big RICC, BA VBBS with cinnamon, etc)?

Nothing in particular. Haven't had either of those you mentioned and they sound delicious. Stouts, porters, sours/brett, DIPAs are my main likes.

Well, before you made fun of my hops and made me throw out the 2 pounds I had left... I dried them out on a screen door, vacuum sealed them all in 4oz bags and kept them in the freezer.

Sounds good!

Were they dried in the sun? And I dont recall ever making fun, that was Psy. I was trying to help and it seems like the hops were the issue. I also wasnt the only one here to suggest that was the issue. :D

There was an issue? I like my beers, and I like nugget. All my beers tasted somewhat similar, since I put an assload of nugget in all of them.. that was the only issue I had, is that it overpowered everything else.

I don't dry them in the sun though. I cut down about 18' of the plant, the top couple feet stay on the rope and are usually burnt out anyway. Drag the plant under the willow tree, pick all the hops and drink beer. Then I arrange a couple screen doors in my mothers dining room with a few box fans, ceiling fan and french doors open. I really don't think there is anything wrong with them but damnit man, I'm a draftsman not a scientist!

Dude, jump on the Big RICC. That is one of the best coffee/chocolate RIS I've ever had. Makes Breakfast stout taste like poo water.

I think the biggest issue was the unknown AA%, kind of made the bittering additions a shot in the dark.

Homegrown hops are best for dry hopping ... and maybe late, aroma additions.

More French press as I buy more entry sensors for our alarm system after finding out someone broke into a neighbors house this morning.

Sounds like lyrics to a country song, or a folk song maybe

Scary. Was anyone home at the time? Did they take much?

Finally feeling like I'm turning the corner on this cold today. Didn't do much of anything this weekend, but at least we started planning/booking our long overdue honeymoon.

Coffee again. Double brew day ended before it began but I may get a single batch done. One of my PIDs failed or if it's not that the heating element failed. It worked for a moment then stopped. I can't figure it out. Very aggravated.

They were home (it was around 5am) - alarm system went off and they ran, but the homeowner saw a shadow running away from the house. This was right before I went out to walk the dog - I saw the cops there and driving around the neighborhood. Good to hear you're planning that honeymoon - hopefully a fun and warm place!

Finishing up coffee and about to run out on some errands.

How'd you like that summer saison?

I was wondering the same thing. Still having a hard time pulling the trigger on a $15 clean saison.

It is absolutely delicious, IMO. Which is why i sent it. Clean or not, it was worth it.

sorry for the slow response, but yes, the saison was great. Didn't know the price as i was drinking it, but worth it.

back in the office, back on the office coffee...

Anyone have experience with coffee beers? I'm planning to add the beans to secondary, but I need a second opinion on how much, for how long, and whole or roughly crushed.

I like 4oz whole beans into the fermentor for as long as youd dry hop. As long as its from a sealed bag, I havent had issue with sanitization. Gives a better and more long lasting flavor than cold pressed or flameout additions IME. Id lower it to 3oz for a light coffee beer

Picked up the tip from madfermentationist. Too lazy to link to it

Great thank you!

In the past, I've made a batch of cold-brew with 5 or 6 oz. and added that at bottling time, but I've heard of plenty of people having good results with the method m00ps described. I'll probably try that next time.

I could see both working, just figured if you added the beans straight to secondary you'd get basically the same results without losing any ABV from diluting it.

With cold brew, you can do a small test blend to see how much you want to add to the full volume (vary the amount of cold brew added).

You can pull samples from the fermenter with the beans too I suppose (vary the time in contact with the beer, once the beans are added).

I've done cold brew additions a couple times before and have been pretty happy with results, might try adding beans directly next time.

Beans are on, finishing my thumbnail drawings, not drawings of thumbnails, and getting prepped for Cubs scout meeting this evening.

Catching up on GOT in between.

I thew 1/2 lb lightly crushed beens directly into a keg of a boring brown for 5 days, made a world of difference.

So you're drawing on your thumbnails?
Last cup of coffee.

Mroing. Sleepy. Stayed out late and then came home to a dog who shat all over his crate. Wife gave him some "calming" treats before we left, apparently those didn't agree with him too well. Poor pup's tummy. Then once we're in bed wife wakes up at 2:30 and throws up a few times, food poisoning from the bar burgers we had. I'm fine though. House smells like a Saison.

It's obviously Karma catching up with you for hating Saisons. :goat:

Hope everyone gets better soon!
