For me a nice house downpayment and then invest the rest and try to retire at 40 or 50 I guess. Have a million dollars and continue working a boring as **** 50k a year job? Ehhh

My prudent answer: Pay off the mortgage, adopt our 1st child and set up a college fund for them, invest the rest.

My less-realistic answer: Take an extravagant vacation, seriously consider opening a brewery, hope to have something left over as a rainy-day fund.

What type of fund was it? I hope you didnt take a lose and just stuck with it. 100% of the time the market comes back up. It sucks seeing that money lost on paper but if you dont need it for a while there is no need to freak out, as hard as that may be.

Haha... it's fine, I understand the ebb and flow. It's just a mutual fund that we contribute to in addition to our 401k.

Just found out the department took up money for the research staff to give as a Christmas bonus, one of the faculty asked how I enjoyed the bonus and I was puzzled. After some research, my name is on the list, yet I received nothing, awkward.
