Pretty fast, I didn't time it but it heated hot tap water to the target temp in a few minutes.

I can play around with the temp a little bit if you want to know.

You thinking a copper coil in a water bath to adjust the temp through heat transfer instead of direct contact, correct?

Right. If the heating is quick and accurate then step mash would be pretty easy without one of those massive electric brewing controllers. Plus you can use it for sous-vide.

The justification will be the first time you eat a perfectly cooked slab of protein.
I have a makeshift setup and will be picking up a premade one shortly.

Yeah, I haven't decided if I will use it often enough to justify it, since you need several hours of cooking. But, I would love the occasional perfect porterhouse or pork loin. Mostly I think I'll use it on fish, which I never eat because I suck at making it.

What temp range and volume do you want me to test it in? I'll do it this afternoon and post the results.

115 to 155 in ten degree steps should prove the concept I think. Thanks a bunch for testing that out.

The one I saw was supposed to be good for taking 6 gal to 170 over about 4 hours on a regular 110V outlet. So set timer to 3am or so, and it's close to ready when I'd've ready to start. I like your idea too, for step mashing or a makeshift RIMS.

All this talk of Sous Vide has made me research. Being the person that I am, I think I am going to put together an Arduino set up.

perfectly cooked meat, here I come.

Approx. 4.5 gallons of tap water in large metal pot.
Ambient temperature is 69°F.
Pressure is 30.15 in.
Indoor humidity is unknown (meter broken).
Times are from starting to end temp.

115 to 125 = 10:44.13
125 to 135 = 12:25.28
135 to 145 = 13:57.54
145 to 155 = 16:51.27

My god. You weren't kidding... you ordered that many tots and you couldn't even buy a bottle of ketchup!? Dude.

Yes. It's all awkward over there now. Going to be a shame for the people that missed what was going on.

...I definitely had missed something. Thought it was all crickets chirping over there yesterday. Damn - so you're telling me everyone missed my nachos, mimosas and scotch yesterday?!? I did have a mich ultra that I didn't post. I thought off-topic was the new on-topic.

Carry on!

Welcome to the new world order.

Or something.

I'm jacked on coffee. Cleaned the kitchen, helping with sweeping and mopping all the tile.

Welcome Comrade!

This day is dragging, 50 minutes.

Likewise, and nice to see everyone again! I really was starting to think that everyone was soooo hungover that I was the only one drinking yesterday. [emoji16]. And tell me about it, I just had my first beer today. (...posted about it in "that" thread, just before becoming enlightened...)
