Morning.

All us alchys need to step it up in the coffee department according to the science of the day.

"Upping your coffee intake may help reduce your chances of developing alcohol-related cirrhosis, according to a review done by the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics of multiple existing studies."

http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/20/health/coffee-liver-cirrhosis-irpt/index.html

Doesn't mention what level of anti-bitterness it should be. But Einstein drank coffee and he didn't die of cirrhosis.

It's on the internet so it must be true.

Thats good news. My diet is predominantly black coffee, beer, and candy so I should be pretty well balanced in terms of anti-sweetness. And here SWMBO says I need to change my diet

I read the same article. I drink probably twice as much coffee as I do beer. I'm immortal.

Can't we just drink coffee beers exclusively and live forever?

That's what I'm taking away from this.

Morning all. Finally feel friendly enough to post.

I always find it so infuriatingly ignorant and obtuse when folks compare idiotic nonsense to Einstein's body of work. All it does is illustate their comple lack of any sort of understanding of what his theorum mean, stem from and how they were received by the scientific community.

The latter never came up with his own mathematical terms (save his cosmological constant) nor did he reinvent the wheel. He built on and explored prior legends' work including but not limited to this incredible chap. Also his ideas like any good theory, were and are testable. (Bad luck string theory.)

Rant over. Sorry. Back to the regular gifwharrburglederp.

As an aside here is another great book for anyone curious about arguably the most famous equation of all. E=mc2 A brilliant read and very well written.

Ok, today's question/debate of the day; when using adjuncts in a high ABV stout such as coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, what have you...what would an appropriate hop schedule be and would it be more prudent in using 'cheesey' hops, similar to a quad style?

I'm with the single bittering charge group, but why are you using cheesy hops in your quads??

Also, morning all.

For an extremely low bitterness. You would still get the preservative effects from the hops that will protect the beer, but the hops would offer little to no flavor.

If I read books, I'd buy that book right now. Unfortunately I don't foresee making it past the title of underling or cadslave so I'm done educating myself. I'll continue to hope for a cataclysm of biblical proportion.

Until then..

Thanks for that. I love reading about Einstein or reading his writings. Man was really something else.

No worries mate. One of the co-authors, Brian Cox is sort of like the British Neil Degrasse Tyson. Has done lots of great shows and lectures. Also he used to be a keyboard player in a band D-ream. (Sort of a 1-2 hit wonder in the 90's, "Things can only get better" being their sig)

Maybe I'm a total dork, but I LOVE to read. But I am not someone who will struggle though a ****ty book. I have many half read books in my house.

But you need the anti-sweetness to balance the intense sweetness of a quad. Or do they cancel in an epic inter-dimensional clash?

I've only heard of using aged (assume this is what you mean by cheesy) hops in lambic-style beers, but it looks like you learn something new every day. I'd have to try an example to form a real opinion, but I still don't think I agree with the theory, regardless of science's new views on anti-sweetness.

I saw I had it written down in some notes from the last quad I had done, and that was like 3 years ago. Im trying to get a feel on if this is still accurate or debunked.
:edit: yes, meant aged hops. My LHBS guy kept calling them cheesy.

I thought you used regular hops, but in small amounts, for a quad. I have only heard of using aged hops in sour beers because more than 5 IBUs can inhibit lacto. So with aged hops you don't get the IBUs, but you do get some other preservatives that keep things from getting gross in a spontaneous ferment. And even then, I have read that you shouldn't use cheesy hops. I have aged hops that definitely went into a cheesy phase, but after more age that went away. I haven't used them yet though. And I still need to read Oldsock's book. I have it on my shelf.

Same with me, but with video games...needless to say, SWMBO is a saint for putting up with me

Lately, I have been spending my evenings in the basement playing PS4 Star Wars: Battlefront. I do mindless dumb ****, too...I just like to read a little afterwards.

I have a hard time finding books I like. The historical ones are usually great until the half way mark, and then they just keep repeating themselves and zzzz. Then I can't find a fantasy series besides ASOIAF I enjoy. Need to try some other fiction genres I reckon.

Tell us what other #justgirlythings you like.

Me? Playing in the snow in shorts. Putting on pajamas after playing in the snow, then watch a good chick flick with seasoned popcorn. Something nice, like Serendipity or The Proposal. Sitting on the deck on a sunny morning with coffee, sketching kitchen redesigns for friends. Drinking a good IPA from a wine or champagne glass.

Ya know.. #justgirlythings

This is good info. Between you and @BGBC I may just have to chuck all my notes and start from scratch. Probably best that way.

You are not alone the last book I purchased that was not beer related was 5 years ago.

Last 2 books were gifted to me and both beer related. Wife's cousin is really big on US history and local history got me Audacity of Hops. There is a lot of local history I did not know with names I recognize.

Last books I read were some dag training ones, Guns, Germs and Steel, Kingkiller Chronicles (fantastic book1, book 2 blew), Mistborn trilogy (meh). Past year and a half or so.
