IPA is my spirit animal
My question is, how accurate is this in figuring IBU? What utilization percentage do you typically use? I have always done 5% but it suggests 10%. at 10% it says my IBU is 113 and I call BS. Any thoughts?
I just did an IPA with a similar hop schedule, only I whirlpooled for 30 minutes. My theoretical IBU ended up at 116. On my system, that is one of the lower IPA IBU numbers I have had. I always whirlpool. I expect it to end more like an East Coast IPA. I use hop bags. What you are getting sounds about right to me. Once you start whirlpooling hops, It's a guess... as I have made IPAs with 140 IBUs before and they weren't over the top.
