My question is, how accurate is this in figuring IBU? What utilization percentage do you typically use? I have always done 5% but it suggests 10%. at 10% it says my IBU is 113 and I call BS. Any thoughts?

I just did an IPA with a similar hop schedule, only I whirlpooled for 30 minutes. My theoretical IBU ended up at 116. On my system, that is one of the lower IPA IBU numbers I have had. I always whirlpool. I expect it to end more like an East Coast IPA. I use hop bags. What you are getting sounds about right to me. Once you start whirlpooling hops, It's a guess... as I have made IPAs with 140 IBUs before and they weren't over the top.

Decided tomorroa I'mma make a Pils instead of your Helles, Gavin. Sorry, you've been replaced. Think I'll just do typical full pils, 150F mash. Havent decided if I want to add a touch of Munich or Melanoidin yet. Doubt I will so it's nice and crisp.

Hop stands in software are pretty inaccurate, IMO. You'll get isomerization at that temp, but significantly less than you would at 200. I estimate about 10-20% of calculated values, or just ignore it altogether. That said, maybe undershoot your 60 minute charge to account for that boost.

Good idea on dialing back the 60 minute hops. Thanks

Sounds good. I will ride it out and just see how it goes. Kinda frustrating I cant get a solid number on it though.

Seriously? That link is like the automatic first response anyone makes on this forum when the question of distribution comes up. Kinda like "the search feature is your friend."
You're a disappointment.

I've never asked the question.

I spent all my time here finding out how to brew better beer, when I should have been trying to find out the best way to acquire more commercial brews.

Guess my priorities are all messed up.

I've never asked the question either, but I can read. And I can't count the amount of times I've seen seekabrew linked to on HBT. Jeez! Why do you have to be such a smart ass. No one likes a smart ass. Trust me, I would know.

Tough day at work, had to interpret my sons drawing for his Pinewood Derby car, just need to cut the wheel wells.

He has a lot of sanding to do this weekend.

I think we're starting ours in the next few weeks. Fun stuff.

Shopping for some beer after work, then hopefully taking a power nap. The work day needs to end.

I feel like a pro @finsfan and @psylocide today getting paid to clean up the brewery. View attachment 330244

Funny you should mention that... I'm going to stop by the Fernson taproom tomorrow and see if I can't line up some part time on the canning line (he offered a few months ago).

I've been kicking the idea around for awhile, think I might give it a couple hours and see what that's all about.

Well the prez showed up right as I was lining up a whiskey sampler. I started vacuuming instead, then ran to hide outside and smoke. He won't be here long, because he told me not to put coffee on for him. He has one tell, and I'm certain he knows.

Fins... I'm disappointed.

6 oz @ 60 in 7 gallons, where would that put you? :ban:

It's really tough to nail down, I agree with you 100% there. The only thing I can add is that the first time I did a 1 bittering charge + all hopstand beer, it was much more bitter than I expected it to be.

So basically, you're on your own.

Agreed.

That's the time you really teach him:
I'm done dad!
No, you're barely started ... with the first grit!
Am I done now?
Nope.
[repeat ad nauseam]

One more water before ending this damned day
