5 Qts In A 2000ml Flask?

Making a barleywine with a larger starter (2 qts instead of 1) and I always make an additional pint to keep in a jar. Looking at my flask I’m thinking it might fit but it also might spew through the airlock. I have an additional 2000ml flask, but...

A quart is pretty close to a liter. 5 q = 4.7l

2000ml = 2.1 quart On a stirplate it might be ok. Intermittent shaking you will probably have krausen spillage. BTW you do not want an airlock on a starter. The yeast need the oxygen to reproduce. Sanitized aluminum foil over the top.

Guessing he meant 5 pints (2 quarts plus 1 pint to save).

Edit: if that’s the case then I don’t think it will fit (5 pints = 2.4 L)

That makes more sense. My 2 liter flasks have room above the 2 liter mark so it's possible to get more in it. I don't know if it would be a pint though and even if I could, I wouldn't do it.

Ooops! Meant pints.

It might have fit but I’m sure it would have become a mess.

Usually I use a whisk to aerate my starters but forgot as I was rushing around. So I will be shaking.
