2 liter yeast starter

I am making a 2 liter starter on Sat and I am using a 2 liter flask. I want to boil the wort directly in the flask but I don't want a boil over. Can I boil enough DME to make a 2 liter starter in 1 liter if water and then top up with water to 2 liters after boil? and If I can, should I top off right after boil or after cooling? Thanks.

sure you can. make sure the added water is also boiled though so that you don't introduce anything with the add on. In that case, you could boil the whole thing in a pot, which is what I would do.

Just boil it in a pot and transfer it hit to the flask after to cool. I usually preheat the flask with hot tap water just so the flask doesn't go from room temp to boiling immediately causing the flask to crack.

I've tried boiling 2L in my 2L flask, it's not worth it.
