Crown Coffee was delivered today. I have it all packaged up and managed to include a small cupping roast for everyone. Although light, it should be a crowd pleaser and give everyone an idea if they want to increase the acidity by shortening the roast/ending lighter or going the opposite. Would love to hear your thoughts good/bad/ugly:)

The sample is 22g coffee intended for 350g brewing water.

PS - some folks sent shipping info & payment with different options through PP. I am doing my best to get you your tracking info. Coffee will go out tomorrow and should arrive by Thursday if all goes well.

I screwed up a roast. It's been a while, and I've been really fortunate the last couple months and just have great coffee roast after roast, but I really screwed up a batch of Burundi from Bodhi. I don't think it's the highest grade stuff, and I think I kept it too light for what it is. But it's really not good; my wife even told me she didn't really like it, and I don't think she's ever said that.

Humility...that's what this roast is teaching me.

Man sorry to hear harbourtown. I am with you on the light roast. While I dont like charring, a fast light roast has been to acidic for my tastes. Maybe try reroasting it, I did that once as passedpawn suggested and it turned out good.

Right now I am trying to take the coffee right to the verge of 2nd c. Not before or after. I can stop the roast right as I hear whispers of 2c and because I cool it with blower stop it right there. Thats makes awesome espresso. The problem is I have to work really quick because it goes from starting 2c to full on sooo quick. No oil, but a very light sheen has been good for me I think. Idk, man this coffee thing is a wonderful adventure.

Spoiler alert:

This stuff is really damn good

Testing out the camping gear for a trip in October. Kalita and pourover are going on the trip. I'd get one of those fancy jetboil backpack cookers, but you're not gonna get a frypan and a big bass or northern on there. I had this one stowed in the corner of my attic for quite some time.

Maybe the jammin ethy beans will make the trip?

Opened the mailbox tonight and there was a large USPS envelope. Huge disappointment when it turned out to be something for the wife. Just checked the tracking # and it looks like tomorrow is the day. I'm sure I'll be roasting some tomorrow night with the help of my CRC crew (Coffee Roasting Cats). ;) I hope we can do it justice. I printed out the Roaster Scope graph you posted to try and replicate your temps and times. I'll let you know.

How does it compare to that roastmaster Ethiopian? Is it so much better that I need to try to do another group buy of it or is the berry flavor of the roastmaster good enough to live with? Thanks

A nice fresh cup of hot pour over while camping sounds awesome. It makes me want to take the pop up out this weekend. That setup looks fine passedpawn. The kettle appears to be pretty nice. Side note I wrap wood chips in tin foil on my little grill like that. Hope you catch some big fish!

Edit, I just woke up from that day dream and remembered that I spend most of my camping trips schlepping stuff around and yelling at my kids to stop rubbing mud on themselves.

Why is that, Apple? Just curious if I'm missing out on something. Is it giving your grilled goods a bit of a smoky wood flavor?

Passed, that should be a great setup. When I was camping earlier this year we put a percolator over the campfire. The first morning it worked great, boiling water in about 5 mins but the second morning it took a good 15 or 20 mins.

I was up north with some friends at a cabin a few weeks ago. We made crap coffee in a standard drip machine (ehhh, I wasn't going to try to brew home roast for 8 dudes who aren't the most...sophisticated bunch), but there's nothing like sitting around a campfire with friends enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning.

Both of my brothers who are joining me are homebrewers and extremely fussy about their coffee. I believe the OCD is genetic :)

We are hoping to use that stove on the boat. Besides coffee, we plan to eat fish we catch. Fishing from a small pontoon boat on the lake.

That's the only way to pontoon. Our group of guys would bring a big grill out on the boat and we'd tie up in the shallows where the other boaters would hang out. Then fry up steaks and burgers and dogs...everyone hated us, and begged for some.

I think it's a good thing to be OCD!

I got my package too!!
Inspired by the smell of the coffee he roasted coming from the package the cats and I got to work. We did two 1/4 lb batches in a row in the Behmor trying to follow the graph @jammin had posted for this exact bean. We hit FC at 7:30 and pulled to cool a minute? later.
We then stepped up to a 1/2 lb batch with FC at 10 minutes. This bean smells amazing green and roasted is WOW!!! Thanks for doing the leg work!
I'll be taking some to work in the morning to share with my coffee buddy.

Can't wait to hear your notes on those 2 batches. I agree, this stuff has amazing aroma. It fills the room when you're drinking it too. Super happy with it. Seriously considering ordering more

Edit: that roast looks really good too, btw

Amen to that! Yeah, I use one of those ss smoker chip trays from amazon and or tin foil. I use chips when I grill almost always regardless of gas or charcoal. Im intrigued by this pellet one, the one with the lid works better I think. Dont know why I do, I think it imparts some smoke to burgers and brats. Iirc i have also just put some chunks in the side too. I indirect cook/smoke with it when we go to the state park beach.

Thanks @jammin , this is a whole new world of coffee to me.
When you posted about this coffee being a berry bomb I had no clue of what was to come. I weighed out 70g this morning to take to work and ran it through the grinder......WOW!! BLUEBERRY and berry and more berry. Anyone who walked through the break room (were I have my own pot with a "NACHO COFFEE") ;) sticker on it made a comment about the aroma. The coffee itself had a slight acidity to it and a very.....berry flavor to it...something I've never experienced before. Dag Nabit, now I see an expresso machine in my future. :D The wife is back in town tomorrow and is gonna love this!

Love to ya brother and all the best this weekend!
Jeff

Cheers to that inkleg, roasting an Ethiopian for a very special person. A cheap Ethiopian with hints of strawberry backed by some caramel. A little too much char in last roasted batch entered second but it had a little Char and a little fruit would make a beautiful esspresso.

I roasted mine tonight.

The RAW beans have a very strong blueberry aroma. The beans had such a strong blueberry flavor that I wondered if they were doctored in some way. It was a LOT of blueberry.

I'll be grinding and drinking next week. Thanks jammin!

I went ahead and ground some of these ethy banko beans that jammin sent. I usually let them offgas for a few days, but hell I've got 5# and no patience.

Holy cow, they are something very different than what I'm used to. Berry bomb is not an exaggeration. Quite a lot of blueberry in there. Taking some with me fishing in a few minutes.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, we get like 2 six packs every other year. I bought both! I think this is one of the best ipas in america. Our beer guy is good. Haha, glad you noticed, I threw that in there for you. Great beer in your town. Good luck fishing, hope you catch more than a coffee buzz.

My friends bm has a better motor and is nicer but half pound is it for him. Mine can whip a pound around at a time. 9 min 1c and then by 11 pretty much done, one pulled there, the other 20 sec after. I actually started smelling it and knew what I wanted by smell. I could smell the fruit development. It was cool. I had stopped smelling after I got sick. Glad to be back.

Man you guys and this new coffee... I got to keep on top of this thread because I missed the buy... Again!

@jammin would you say it's comparable to the Ethiopia Konga from roastmasters?

@trickydick - remind me to give your ad a bump in a few days if it doesn't sell. I've had an account there forever and will vouch for ya

what happened with your roast? i didn't get any of that coffee. the seller spoke very highly of it

Just got a nibble on the roaster. Gonna see if he'll pay the s&h.

Just got your coffee, prepping for brew as we speak!

Haven't roasted that GCBG Indio I think EYC bean yet. Will probably be roasting Sunday three batches_ GCBG Indio, the Humoungous peaberry bean from GCBC, and the stuff you just sent out.

TD

update-
brewed in my pourover the sample from Jammin with 350g water. This is really great stuff! Even with my messed up sinuses, it smells great and tastes great. Definitely get a big hit of blueberry.
