Commercial beer that have clear grain bills

I recently had a beer at the Founders bar that was clearly made with Golden Promise. I am curious if anyone else has any other beers that stand as clear examples of a particular grain taste.

    Club logo needed

I need the help of an artist. We recently formed a small brew club and named it "The Brotherhood of Wort" by majority vote. I would like to make flyers to put up in various locales, but I would like to avoid a simple wall of text. I think we need a logo to use as a letterhead of sorts. The...

    Animals eating leaves?

I have two varieties of bines, planted within a few feet of each other. My Centennial has been stripped of it's leaves twice. Starting about a foot up the plant and up for about a foot. Once that section moved up about a foot and it happened again, same plant, same spot, same pattern. the...

    Water report help please

I had a water report done with water filtered by a 19 dollar hose filter I use to clean my hot tub water. This is well water through hose with filter attached. My well water is horribly lousy with iron and this filter removes it for the tub. Please tell me if this is decent brewing water. I...

    ball lock disconnect failure

I had a friend over for a beer, I went to serve one of my pales and a little trickle came out then nothing. I checked the gas, swapped the gas with a working keg, nothing. I swapped the beer line to another (known working) keg and still nothing. I pulled the disconnect off the keg and worked the...

Introducing a new North Eastern Indiana HBC

Hello all, Several other members and I have formed The Brotherhood of Wort (BOW) to bring together those in the region. While we haven't started regular meetings yet, it looks like they will be held in the brewing area of Chapman's Brewing, Angola, IN. Please check out and join our facebook...

    Salt additions and boil off

It seems that salt additions are made to aid in an effort to adjust the final taste of the beer, if I am thinking correctly. My question is, if one adds salts to a mash/sparge water combo with a volume of 8 gallons, at the end of the boil (with a final volume of say 5 gallons) does the total...

    Science Fair help please!

My boy, 12, has choosen to to do a project based on bacteria growth changes depending on growth medium and tempurature. We wil make agar dishes out of beef bullion, table sugar, corn sugar, and dme. Then innoculate the plates and store at three tempuratures (fridge(40?), room(65?), and around...

    Vermont Ale yeast oddity

I brewed up a pliney clone yesterday, warmed the wort to fementation temps (66f) and pitched. This morning I checked what I though would be a bubbling happy fermenter only to find nothing... no airlock activity, and no visible signs of life on the surface. I've had stalled starts before, so I...

    Monster mill code..

This morning while checking my email and surfing around I saw an add for 10% off Monster Mills. I remember it saying the code was good through February. Somehow I lost it, deleted the email, clicked off the page, closed it, I don't know. Anyhow has anyone seen this?

    NE Indiana HB club

I know MASH is active in Ft. Wayne, but I was wondering if folks from Auburn north in Ne Indiana would be interested in starting something more local.

Trying to get the hang of mash thickness

Okay I'll be mashing in a basket with a radius of 8.25". My kettle has 2.5" of dead space under the bottom of the basket. If I full volume mash with 7 gallons (another question here) I'll have approximately 4.25" of water actually inside the basket/bag. I calculate that to be about 17.58 qts...

    Fat Head dregs starter

I bought a four pack of Fat Head's hop stalker, decent beer but I'm not a huge wet hop fan. It's unfiltered going into the can so I made a small starter with the dregs of three. It took a couple days to take off and now has a 4" krausen. I emailed the brewery but no reply yet, any ideas what...

    Rebuilding my grain mill

I put this together 10 years ago. Some friends from work, machinists, made the roller body from plans that were floating around rec.crafts.homebrewing iirc. Has been up in the attic until today. I didn't get a before shot of the rollers, but they were as bad as the shaft and adjustment knobs.

    The horror!!!!!!

I was having a few beers and decided to throw one of the last 5 of my retrun to brewing Irish ales in the freezer to cool it quickly. Fast foward 4 hours when my insomnia kicked in and I'm transfering 5 gallons to secondary (normally don't but the primary was lousy with yeast, I want a clear...

    Upland brewing Helios Pale Ale

Can someone please tell me what provides the malt backbone of this one. It's so malt forward it'll save me a SMaSH. I'm assuming it's pale or 2-row. Thank you.
