    Willie Belcher glasses

I can't find much on why Willie Belcher glasses are called Willie Belcher. I can only assume it's because that's who originally made them? I also can't find the reasoning behind the design, what are its benefits?

    Dry yeast-first time

I've got a full sachet of safale us-05 from work. I'm brewing today and want to use it. I usually use liquid yeast, and am not sure how much I should pitch. Beers Gravity is 1.055. Can anyone tell me the yeast to gravity ratio of safale us-05?

    Brewing books on tape?

It's incredibly hard for me to sit down for longer than 15 minutes. Therefore, reading anything longer than an instructions pamphlet is difficult. I have a 30 minute commute to work everyday, and figured books on tape are my answer to quality knowledge in brewing. I can't seem to find any in a...

    09' vertical epic ft

Throwing it out there to see what I can get for it. I've never ventured too far away from east coast beers. Anyone out there? Stone vertical epic 2009

    Assistant brewers position.

Hey guys, I've got an interview for my dream job. I've been working the same garbage factory night shift since I was 18 (5 years) and have been interning at a new, very successful craft brewery. The brewery is looking to hire an assistant brewer under my current mentor, and an incredibly...

Little help for a new fella?

I've brewed a few all grain batches, and have hit pre boil grav every time. I was shooting for a 1.079 this time, and came up with 1.052 in the pre boil. I have some dme, can I use that to jack up the gravity? If so, how much? Thanks in advance Green mountain high!

    Enough dme?

I wanted to make a starter tomorrow, for a double ipa ( og 1.079) I'm brewing on Monday, or Tuesday. I'm using Vermont ale yeast from white labs for the first time, with my citra, cascade, simcoe combination. My problem is that I didn't order any dme for the starter. I have about a 1/2 pound I...

    Quick question

I'm brewing my 2nd all grain batch today. My sparge water is 165 degrees. I know you shouldn't go over 170. This should be fine, right? Green mountain high!

    Fear of bottle bombs

2 batches ago I brewed an extract that I fear may be potential bottle bombs. It was a higher gravity beer, but I hit my OG, and my FG spot on. It took four weeks, and I took multiple gravity samples days apart to be sure fermentation was complete. I used 4 oz. of corn sugar to bottle. Today, I...

    Bottle sediment difference

This is nothing I'm particularly worried about, just curious. I bottled my second batch of ipa. The first batch was a pretty similar recipe (some changes to hop schedule). I noticed that the sediment in the first batch is chunky pieces. A LOT of it. It's been in bottles for 4 weeks without...

    What do you drive?

I've seen threads for bikes, but I haven't seen one for cars...so as usual, if this is a thread already, please tell me, and redirect this post. Just as I am infatuated with my brew, I'm just as infatuated with my car. It's a 2005 subaru STi. Pulls like a train, ridiculously fun to drive. On the...

Looks like my schedule will be held back a week

Since I started brewing (4 weeks ago) I have done a batch a week. Now I'm super bummed because I simply cannot this week. I have 3 carboys, so I'm at full capacity (1 in bottles, 3 in fermenter) and was ready to bottle my 2nd batch (a cascade pale ale) when the racking cane for my siphon was...

    Brewing attire?

Does anyone have specific clothing they wear on brew day? I brew every Sunday, in fuzzy slippers, gym shorts and no shirt. No shirt, because I have 4 dogs, and don't want any dog hairs in my beer, shorts and slippers because they're comfy as hell! I don't care if its negative 20 outside. Thought...

    First broken hydrometer :(

Well, I decided to drink a few heady toppers before cleaning. Needless to say, I broke my first hydrometer. Literally punched that mother hydrofu.cker clean off the table.(accidentally) I was hoping to brew a million batches with the same one, but I failed; 4 batches in :(. Just a random ass...

    Odd chain of events

So I'm totally fresh at brewing. The focus of this post is my 4th and most recent recipe. A simcoe double ipa, 1.5 L starter made with white labs wlp001, and pitched at 68. Due to the high gravity (1.079) along with the yeast starter I decided to ferment at 60-65. Here's where **** gets weird...

    Losing aroma in bottles

My first batch is an extract ipa brewed exclusively with citra. It spent 3 weeks fermenting, and currently has one week in the bottle. I know that's not nearly enough time, but as an excited greenhorn, I wanted to see progress. During bottle day, the aroma was incredible. Just in your face...

Sunday brew day! Pre brew thoughts?

I love this forum, not just for searching any question I get while pondering this wonderful hobby, but for opinions also. I'm brewing my 4th batch this weekend. Continuing my hop research, one hop at a time! So far all I've brewed is 6-8% ABV and 90-120 ibu beers ipas and double ipas. In light...

    3d batch, double ipa

Here's me recipe for my third batch. A 5 gallon double ipa, exclusively brewed with simcoe. Also my first time using simcoe I made an 1800 ml starter with California ale yeast, pitched at 70 degrees. Any critique would be encouraged! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
