Barley Wine done (primary) already!!! Really???

I would suggest maltodextrin rather than lactose.

Breweries filling only "their" growlers, what's up with that?

Similar experience here. Side note is they don't do growler fills anymore anyway.

    Chicago Suburban Area Homebrew Shops

Brew and Grow is a chain of homebrew shops around the area. There's a location in Bolingbrook. Chicago Brew Werks is another store in Plainfield, but I haven't stopped in yet, but always heard great things (met the owner at a competition, and he was super nice) I can't comment on prices...

This will change the way you think about yeast harvesting - I PROMISE!

You can certainly fit an extra 100-200 mL into a 2L Erlenmeyer and save that portion of wonderful, first gen yeast. Or you could get a larger starter container for the whopping price of $4.99 the next time you place an online order.

IPA has been bottled for a week...

I know this is thread resurrection here, but I agree. I have almost never had a beer not be carbed in a weeks' worth of time. I had a Dark Strong never carb at all, and that's about it. Everyone's experiences are different and therefore everyone should do what works best for them. I've been...

    Competition question--smoked beer

If the cherries aren't noticeable like you said, then 22B. And don't mention them in your description ;)

    Gelatin and IPAs

Pretty much. I like that everyone wants to cite Heady as being cloudy but doesn't give mention to PtE, which is fined with gelatin at the brewpub. Yes, it all comes down to personal preference. However, I do agree with what Ty said earlier on cutting down on some of the harsh hop profile (and...
