Hoptical illusion is great! I don't think it gets the respect it should

Hoptical is yummy. Rumor here on LI wa that they are changing it into a session beer keeping the name but pretty much knocking it down to half of what it is now. No Bueno.

That was an April fools joke. Something about 3% and 30 IBU. All a game, it will still be the same. If you are local and like hoptical, you have to try spider bite eye bee use (I have no idea how they spell it), it is AWESOME!

I was hoping that was the case. It's my favorite local IPA but Eye Be Use is also really really good. Boris is excellent as well. Very lucky to have so much good local beer here and a ton of local events with cask fests etc.

Fat Tire Amber Ale
George Killian's Irish Red
Samuel Adams Octoberfest
Widmer Hefeweizen
Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager

Sam Adam's Boston Lager
Bell's Christmas Ale

Well, let's see here. My favorites that I can think of right now are:

Dubbel Vision from Bastone, Royal Oak, MI - award winning belgian dubbel
Zaison from Brewery Vivant, Grand Rapids, MI - imperial saison
Escoffier from Brewery Vivant and New Belgium (collaboration) - farmhouse brett ale
The Oracle from Bell's, Kalamazoo, MI - DIPA
Super IPA from New Belgium and Alpine Beer Co. (collaboration) - DIPA

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier
Erdinger Weissbier
Maisel's Weisse
Zlatopramen 11
Koff Porter

Did I forget to mention that German weissbier is my favorite type?

Zlatopramen 11 doesn't get much appreciation from ratings that I have read, but one day I had a few while grilling and they were just out of this world. And now they don't sell them here anymore. A Czech coworker of mine brought me a few bottles when he returned from visiting his family a few years back. It would be nice to have some more.

Koff Porter is about the only Finnish beer to ever gain international recognition. Michael Jackson liked it, and he used to visit Finland now to get some down his throat. It's a strong, sturdy beer. Definitely try it if you see one in a store.

Right now, in no particular order:

Lagunitas Maximus IPA
Ithaca Flower Power
Alagash White
Dragon Stout
My kern river citra IPA variation(I've really been loving it lately)

My current top 5 in no particular order:

Thirsty Bear Kozlov Stout
Lost Coast Downtown Brown

As my palette changes, I'll update the list.

I agree, tough call. Five I really enjoy are:

Staropramen
Courage Best Bitter
Rogue Dry Hopped St. Rogue Red Ale
Goose Island Mild Winter
Maredsous Brune/Bruin

These are 5 beers that I just genuinely enjoy.

5 - Rogue Double Chocolate Stout
4 - Founder's Breakfast Stout
3 - Scratch 98 - Triple Mango IPA (Troeg's)
2 - Heady Topper
1 - Ballast Point Sculpin

Track 7 Panic IPA *
Pliny the Elder
Racer 5
Black Dragon Stained of Mind IPA *

* you'll never see these outside of Norcal - but if you get the chance to try them, do it!

1. Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
2. Bells Hopslam
3. Founders All day IPA
4. Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar
5. Stone Ruination

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Duvel

Stone IPA (must be fresh)

Saison DuPont

Guinness (on draft, proper pour)

All the above are very food friendly and covers the flavors I look for in a beer. This also pretty much runs the spectrum of styles that I consistently brew consistently.

Clown Shoes witbier offering, Clementine, is one of my favorite 5 these days. I think it's the best witbier I have found in a bottle in the Northeast. It's hard to believe the ABV, it tastes pretty light.
