I am just wondering is these "yeast nutrients" are worth buying... how much do they help fermentation i'm looking into the wyeast nutrient and i was just wondering... thanks

I find I get a more active and vigorous fermentation with it. Also, on high gravity beers I'd almost say it is a must.
With most meads though you don't have the protein and enzymes for the yeast to eat so, yeah, you sorta have to use it on meads. I did it on my first mead and it went from 1.116 to 1.011 with a sweat mead yeast. I forgot to do it with my Wee Heavy and it has pretty much stalled at 1.038 from 1.110.+2 and almost EVERY mead uses it.
