Flow speeds how will they effect my pumps

First off i'm planning out my new 1 tier brew station and i was wondering what the best way to control flow is when your pumping from the MLT and or pumping from the HLT for fly sparging

I was thinking i could just use the ball valves to tweak flow, but will that create excess force on the pumps causing premature failure

If you use mag drive circulation pumps like the March 809, backpressure is not a problem because the impeller to motor connection will just slip.
