OK, so I'm back from Toronto! Some of the highlights:
Spirits Bar and Grill: This was a place the bachelor had been before... Took us a while to find it, but a nice place for food. Not a big beer selection, but we were throwing back Amsterdam Blondes like they were going out of style.
C'est What: Fantastic brewpub!!! Yes, their stuff is made off-site at Durham, but wonderful beers! We opened the place on Saturday and had just a terrific barmaid by the name of Maggie. She was absolutely tremendous, knowledgable about all the beers, and so friendly. Some of the great beers I had:
- Coffee Porter
Cest What?, Toronto, Ontario 5.8% - nitro-dispensed
- Hazelnut Chocolate Ale
Cest What?, Toronto, Ontario 5.3% - nitro-dispensed
- Granite Best Bitter
Granite Brewery, Toronto, Ontario 4.5% - cask
- Devils Pale Ale
Great Lakes Brewing, Toronto, Ontario 6.0%
- Hop Addict
Durham Brewing, Pickering, Ontario 5.4%
- Black Oak Pale Ale
Black Oak Brewing, Toronto, Ontario 5.0%
- Ephemere Apple (Pomme)
Unibroue, Chambly, Quebec 5.5%
- Tankhouse Ale
Mill Street Brewing, Toronto, Ontario 5.2%
All of these beers were excellent...
McVeigh's New Windsor Tavern: Fantastic time... Had Irish music live, great barmaid named Tracy, and the owner was there hanging with us too. It's also the pub where Boondock Saints was filmed:
No, we didn't yell "Hey f*ck*ss get me a beer" when we walked in, but a ton of people do...
Laide: Wow. This place.... Wow. We were here for about 15 minutes - not our scene... From the detailed plaster nude body casts to the 1"x1" porn scenes on the bar top, to the 8'x12' video screen on the wall playing 1930's pornos.... Not our scene. Hey, we're not prudes, but 7 foot high chubby grandma bush :fro: on the wall is a little unappetizing....
The Brass Rail: This place however, was very appetizing (link probably NSFW). The bachelor was dead on with his recollections of this place. Fantastic women at affordable prices. He was treated like a KING!!!
The only bad beers we had were Keith's IPA which was an IPA with no hops whatsoever, King Pilsner - mehhh.... and Rickard's Amber - yawn.
Final analysis - I hate the Leafs with a passion, but
I LOVE TORONTO. Beautiful, clean, modern yet classic, nice, friendly, mellow people. I would love to go back there... It was just a fantastic experience all around!!!
