    Bottling disaster! Advice please!

Had a bit of a bottling disaster tonight. Did a NEIPA for first time. Seemed to go well. Starting SG was slightly high but finished bang on. Came out as 7 % instead of 6.8. Had trouble siphoning though. Only time this has happened to this extent in 5 years. I definitely used more hops than I...

    Spraymalt alone?

Hi brewers, I brought some extra light spray malt. Can I use this alone as the malt extract to make beer (obviously adding hops)? The pack seems to imply this is a sugar substitute to be added to extract. confused, Ross

To bottle or not to bottle?

Hi Brewers, I have brewed an 11 Litre all grain IPA. Target OG was 1.061. Actual OG was 1.071 (taken with refractometer). Target FG was 1.012. SG at 15 and 17 days (hydrometer) was 1.026. (Reading at 15 days with refractometer was 1.038, but I understand that this is inaccurate due to...

    Insanely foamy beer

Hi brewers My beers are super super foamy upon opening. I will lose *at least* half the bottle. I am surprised they have not exploded. There seem to be three possibilities: 1). Infection. I don’t think this has happened as the beer tasted fine. 2). Bottled too soon. There is a possibility...

Can I top up with all-grain recipie?

Hi Brewers, I am thinking of purchasing a 2 gallon brewing batch kit (all-grain). It recommends 20 Litre pot to brew in, but I only have 11L. Could I brew in this (obviously adding all ingredients) and then just top up required amount of water when adding to fermentation vessel and pitching...

2nd All-grain brew: Better, but still some issues

Hi Brewers, I have just bottled my 2nd All-grain brew. I had some issues with the first, mainly that the alc. vol. ended up as only about 0.7 per cent! (See https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/first-all-grain-brew-observations.657725/#post-8432010) I made some changes for the 2nd...

    First all grain brew observations

Hi Brewers, Some issues I had with my first all-grain brew, and some observations. Any pointers greatly appreciated. -Pre-boil SG was only 1.022 (should have been 1.060) Observation: Need to crush grain more. Also, temp kept dropping below 75 during steeping. Someone suggested I should put...

First all grain - low SG

Hi Brewers, I did my first all grain brew today using this BIAB 1 gallon recipe: https://www.beercraftr.com/1-gallon-session-ipa-recipe/ My pre-boil SG should have been 1.065 (this is the same as 65 gravity points, right?) but was 1.023. Way out! (I adjusted the actual reading of 1.018 as temp...

    No bubbling

Hi Brewers, I recently did my second only brew and noticed that the airlock did not bubble at all. I don't think it did on my first brew either. Fermentation has happened (there was trub in bottom and scuzz on lid). The fermentor was new too. Why no bubbling? Kind regards, Ross

    Washing bottles

Hi Brewers, I am bottling in a couple of days. I have used the bottles once before (500ml swing tops) and rinsed them with water after they were finished. My plan is to just soak them and tops in a plastic bucket in solution of tap water and Young's steriliser and cleaner for 20 mins...

    Hops expiration date

I have some hops (perle) that expired end of June this year, which I froze in Jan. Just got them out the freezer. Do people think they will be okay to use tomorrow?
