    ID for Growler filling tube?

Looking to get a growler tube from a hardware store to fit on my standard beer tap (not perlick). Saw many posts regarding this on HBT, but none giving the ID that works best. Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Time to bring 5g down to cold crash temps

My english mild was fermenting at 68 and then late on Thursday, July 19th, I began my cold crash (putting the temp control to 45). It is now Sunday morning, so 60 hours later, and then temp is only at 55. My 5.25 gallons in a BB carboy, only lost 13 degrees in 60 hours. I have cold...

    Attn Certified BJCP judges!

The beer in question: Weihenstephaner Vitus (Weizenbock) I am currently studying for the judging portion of the BJCP exam, and am currently drinking some German styles. I read that Weihenstephaner Vitus was a great weizenbock, so I picked it up. While drinking it, I was stunned at how far...

CO2 on the Outside of Kegerator

Can I get away with just using silicone sealant around the hole and tubing for a secure fit? I didnt want to have to mess with any additional hardware, and thought this route could be quick, easy, and effective. thanks.

Another co2 leak thread, but i swear this time its different :-\

its probably not, but ive searched high and low. I have a leak, draining quick. Today I sprayed starsan all over everything, and noticed that my gas in poppet was bubbling up, thus leaking out gas. Fiddling around with it (the keg is full), i was able to get it to 'lock in' appropriately...

    American wheat base ratios

Specialty malts aside, has anyone brewed both a 50/50 2row/wheat and 40/60 2row/wheat? I say specialty malts aside, as my bill is going to be about 15% specialty. Having a hard time deciding on the base ratio though of 2row and wheat. Thoughts, pros, cons, preferences appreciated.

    Removing burner paint

My burner is relentless with burning off its paint, coating my kettle. This of course leads to a painful clean up because the paint that is now on my kettle gets everywhere in my house and also, it's dirtying up my kettle! I've done 6 batches on it, and still is burning it off. Does it ever...

    Gravity issue

Making a Belgian Dubbel, BIAB. Recipe preboil gravity was 1043, I hit 1038. I had to add .38lbs Belgian candi syrup, and .25lb table sugar in the boil, which would shoot the OG to 1076. At 15 mins left, I removed from heat, added and stirred the sugars and whirlfloc, put back on the flame to...

    Will starsan defeat jet dry?

I need to get evil jet dry off my bottles before I bottle. Will soaking in starsan remove the head depleting nasties?

Yeast dribbled on my hand while pouring

Making a starter, I open the vial, and poured it into the flask. But the pressure in the vial made some come out earlier than intended and some of the yeast touched my hand on the pour :/ Big chance of infected starter? I mean, my hands were just in some star San solution. But ugh.

    Noob on a partial mash

I'm doing jamils dry stout, and realized I need to do a partial mash for the flaked barley. I did the research (thx to deathbrewer). I'm just trying to understand the water calc. I'm using the following grains: 2lb flaked barley 1lb black roasted malt 2lb American 2 row jamil is saying he...

    Temperature change

I realized after 15 hours post-pitch that my temp in my closet is about 75 F. I don't want to put my yeast in overdrive, so I turned the thermostat down to 71. I know stable temp is important, but so is a low temp (65-75). Am I ok lowering the temp 15 hours in?

At what point is high OG too high, and a problem?

Im brewing a big IPA, and my OG is around 1.074, and the recipe states that its about 1.064-1.068. Total noob question, and I searched, but didnt really find anything about 1) what happens to the end product when the OG is high, and 2) when is high too high?

    First-time Chicago (burb) Homebrewer

First time brewer. About one week into my first batch (amber ale). Been drinking crafts for about 8 years, and always wanted to brew my own. Just moved out of the parents house, so let the brewing begin. Came across the site by just googling, trying to find an informative site...and...
