What's everybody doing with their wet hops?

I ordered a pound of wet cascades from Brewmaster's Warehouse along with a lot of people. I was wondering what kind of recipes everybody is brewing. Here's mine. Three Hawks Wet Hop Ale Original Gravity: 1.052 Terminal Gravity: 1.013 Color: 4.9 Bitterness: 69.2 Alcohol: 5.08 % Ingredients...

    New electric HLT

I got this brew tree on the right for $250. It's a keg wired with a 220 heating element, temperature controller, thermometer, 1/2 " ball valve on the side and a 3/8" ball valve on the bottom. The tree has a water filter attached to a copper line into the tank. I'm going to install a sight...

    It never hurts to ask....

I met a guy who is the facilities manager for a university and during the course of the conversation I asked him what they did with all the 10 gallon coolers that get left after track meets. Seems the NCAA brings them in and leaves them after the events. He gave me two with the promise of...

Ever heard of a Valentine Arm for fly sparging?

This looks pretty neat but I don't quite understand the concept. Can someone school me?

    Pizza pairing suggestions

This beauty is resting on the cutting board now. The pizza is a pepperoni and tomato with shiitake mushrooms sauteed in cippolini onions with mozzarella, fresh parmesan and a little swiss cheese. The crust is fresh made of course. The beer choices are Boulevard unfiltered wheat, IPA or Pale...

    4X4 Brewing

I combined my two favorite hobbies last weekend. I packed up my brewing equipment in my Jeep and went to a buddies' cabin in the woods to brew him a batch for deer season this fall. The best part is he doesn't even know there is five gallons of Old Ale fermenting in the basement of his cabin...

Recipe Gurus—Help me design a tribute beer

I want to make a beer to honor an old dog I had named Possum. She was a Border Collie of Scottish ancestry. She was red(brown) and white and I would like to do a beer that is close to the same color with a Scottish element. Here is her picture with a potential label design. When I read this...

    Beer jokes

I'll start with one of my favorites. No offense intended to the Irish. :D :tank: An Irishman left the local pub and was making his way unsteadily home when he decided to take a shortcut and got lost. He went to have a seat on a rock and figure out where he went wrong. As he sat he heard a...

Matching (almost) stainless tap handles for free

Check this out. They are only set in place to see how they look. I cut the valves off of three sanke keg dip tubes. I've got other things in mind for the tubes, and I didn't want to waste the tops. I was thinking about dowel rods in the bottom part to screw the hanger bolt into and a silver...

Scored some old bottles. See if this sounds right.

A friend gave me around 50 old swing-top bottles. The youngest is 20 years old. I pulled the tops and took off all the rubber gaskets. After rinsing the dust off and getting the labels off, the soaked overnight in oxy-clean. Tomorrow I plan on hitting them with a bottle brush and a bleach bath...

    Northwest Arkansas checking in

I've been lurking for a few weeks doing research. I live in Hogeye near Fayetteville in the northwest corner of Arkansas. I just got into brewing thanks to a good friend. For now I'm making extract batches but I'm slowly piecing together the equipment to do all grain. Hopefully by March I'll...
