Brewery Growth: Better to Plan, or Sell and See?

If you have a plan, you have something to measure success/lack of success off of. I know a small brewery that opened without a plan, started making good beer, and selling it. But they had no idea what their margins were, what they projected to sell for the year, and weren't paying themselves...

Adding coffee to keg after carbonation?

Hey all, I brewed a pretty good brown ale. Not my best, but still pretty good. For X-mas, I feel it's missing a little something though. I was thinking about making a cold brew coffee concentrate and adding straight to the keg. It's fully carbed and I've had a few pints - I'm just thinking...

Feeling ready to give up on BIAB.

My $0.02. I BIAB most of the time and use Beersmith exclusively to build my recipes and set up brew day. Using BS then BIAB spreadsheet seems like double the work... I use the BIAB mash profile and equipment profiles that are built into BS, and plan for 68% efficiency. Full volume, no sparge...

    Do I go all in?

I tasted it and it was delicious. I crashed and kegged, then added some bourbon. The infection came after adding the vanillla beans. Ill just keep cold and drink it until it tastes bad. I agree with everyone saying 6-12 months was too long to bank on an unknown variable. Cheers!

    Do I go all in?

I recently brewed a big porter. 9.1% big. I transferred to secondary after 14 days in primary, and it was delicious. I added 2 bourbon soaked vanilla beans and was going to let it sit a week before kegging. 5 days later, see below pic. So, my local homebrewclub is split between kegging and...

    German Hefeweizen Advice

Should you do a 90 minute boil with 50% pils? I know in pils heavy beers DMS is a concern at a shorter boil.

cold brew vs whole beans vs hot brew

I've used a cold brew for my coffee beers. Someone told me once that hot brew extracts a different bitterness that isn't favorable in beer.

    Biab (all grain) problems

Water is very different for all grain than extract. Extract already had proper water adjustments made when they were making the extract. Definitely look into water.

First attempt at Apricot Wheat Ale

I did a peach hef using puree. FG was 1.019 as opposed to estimated 1.011. It was tart for the 1st 2 weeks after I kegged it and carbed it. It mellowed out nicely and won 2nd place at a brew comp recently. Give it time...

    Salty taste

Quick update : after letting this beer sit for another 2 weeks, I tried it and was pleasantly surprised that I now had a really good brew on my hands. You can taste the maple syrup, it's got a biscuity, roasted quality, and drinks really well. I'm proud of my 1st brew now! If I've learned...

    Feedback requested: Homemade lightbox results

I would move the glass farther from the background and like the others suggested bounce some light off the back. Also, I would pull the side lights back a little bit to give a softer wraparound. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Home Brew mobile app
