    Blueberry Blonde Ale

I brewed an American Wheat and added 2 oz of natural blueberry extract at packaging and it is awesome. The blueberry is very subtle but apparent.

simple brown beer from extract only.

One of the easiest ways to brew 2 gallons is to get a Mr Beer kit or: 3 lbs Dark DME .5 oz Cascade hops at 30 minutes 3 gal water to boil Add DME Bring back to boil (watch for boil over) Add hops and boil 30 minutes. Cool down as quickly as possible Add to fermenter. Add yeast and...

1900w immersion heater element : safe to 120v?

Be careful changing circuit breakers. The wiring is heavier for the 20 amp vs the 15 amp circuit. What may happen is overloading and overheating the existing wiring. Can you say fire?

    Two Packets or One?

The reason is probably to have enough viable yeast cells but you can do the same thing by making a yeast starter. You have plenty of time.

    WLP023, getting no action

Early on, second batch, this exact scenario happened to me. Expired yeast, no starter, and probably not enough oxygenation of the wort. Airlock did not begin until the third day. The yeast was so stressed the final taste, although not poison, was not very good. I absolutely learned many...

    US-05 at 77 degrees

It has been my experience that fermentation temperatures that high in the period you describe will cause some esters from the yeast that may not be desirable. No sense worrying, (The mantra here).

Does anyone use Citra as bittering hop?

My SMaSH is 10# 2-Row, 1/2 oz Citra 60 minutes and 1/2 oz at 5 minutes. Once it has conditioned it makes an excellent summer drinker.

Does anyone use Citra as bittering hop?

I have done a few Citra SMaSH (Blonde) and each one came out pretty awesome but I do not go crazy with the bittering addition.

    White Labs Response to Starters

Could you elaborate on canning starter wort. I harvest yeast and think the canned wort would be an excellent time saver. I guess the time you have the canned goods under pressure would be my most concern. Thanks.

Any tricks on cooling your fermenter?

I have tried several ways to control fermentation but the simplest way for me was to build the 38DD fermentation chamber. In the summer I can control the temperatures with a couple frozen 2 liter bottles and in the winter I connect a 200 watt heater, all controlled with an STC 1000. It does an...

    Dumb copper coil chiller question

This is what I use with tap well water. Here in Michigan it is probably colder than most. It cools the wort quickly.

    Chest freezer fermentation chamber

Be careful with the controllers that look like a STC-1000 and report in F instead of C. They normally have only one temperature control so one cannot use it for heat and cool simultaneously. The STC-1000 works well for continuously maintaining a consistent temperature. BTW, one could train a...
