Low mash pH with Golden Promise

I used the same percentage of Golden Promise in a beer this weekend and noticed the same effect with a lower pH measured than predicted. Luckily I started with only 1ml of lactic acid instead of 3 ml that I was going to add, then checked ph after 20 minutes or so and it was 5.35. I think AJ is...

Make 1 starter for 2 batches of beer?

Depends on the original gravity of the beer, and what size flask do you have? You can make multi-stage starters and use an online yeast calculator tool to buildup to the correct pitching rate / yeast cells.

    Dry hop in a Keg

When making hoppy IPA's, I use my corney kegs as secondary fermentors and add the dry hops after I transfer to the keg. Fasten a SS hose clamp to the PRV, tie a fishing line to the hose clamp and tie the other end of the line to a a fine mesh bag containing the hops. Crank pressure to 30 psig...

What type of line to use for kegerator?

Sorry, I was referring to the bev-seal variety as being the way you should go (http://www.ritebrew.com/product-p/843564.htm). ^ This And so much easier to use the John Guest fittings than try to manage these lines over a hose barb. Here they are...

How do you clean/sanitize your odd shaped items - beer gun, rack, etc?

I use a 1 gallon garden sprayer filled with PBW that I use to clean my beer lines. The end is fitted with a 1/4" male flared thread that adapts to beer lines, my beer gun, or any hoses i need to clean/sanitize. Then I leave the beer gun, racking cane or tubing pressurized to effectively "soak"...

    Lacto fermented pickles

Ferment some superhot peppers. Make a sauce or just put them in whole if your into the double burn. I have some homegrown habaneros, carolina reaper mix I'm making right now with a little bit of carrot mixed in. Pellicle starting to form since I pitched some lacto from kefir.

High gravity RIS - adding DME during fermentation

You could try dry heat sterilization in the oven. I'm not sure how the powder would hold up to the heat.

Weird refractometer meter reading post fermentation

You can't use a refractometer post fermentation. The presence of alcohol will throw off your reading. Use the hydrometer reading.

King Kooker 94/90TKD two tier jet burner first boil

If you're referring to my post, I made a single tier, not a 3-tier. You could make a 3 tier, but it would require a lot more fabrication for your HLT on the top tier.

    List of PJ Electrical Diagrams

I've been reading through the forums and can't find a similar scenario. I currently have a 120v control panel with two separate circuits; one for the pumps and one dedicated for the HERMS. Now I want to upgrade to 240V. I recently discovered that I have a 240V location at the pool pump timer...

    IPA and mosaic hops

One of my best IPA's to date was Mosaic and Amarillo late hops only. It does produce a super fruity IPA, which I dig. I don't think you will be dissappointed with your recipe without Simcoe, unless you're a cat squeezer. Amount Fermentable 24 lb American - Pale 2-Row 87.3% 1.5 lb...

    In-Keg Dry Hopping

You onto the right idea. Just use a SS hose clamp on the relief valve on the underside of the lid, and tie or wrap the fishing line around that to your desired length.

    Cheap compact wort pump

Yes it was the power supply. I wasn't running multiple pumps at the same time, but the 2 amp power supply was cycling for some reason as you suggested. I figured if it died, I would have no response from the pump at all, therefore I blamed the pumps. Thanks for the help.

    Cheap compact wort pump

Thanks barber, that might be the problem. I was so upset that this happened right before my sparge on brewday that I almost threw the pump at my block wall before even troubleshooting other possibilities.
