Making a Birch Keezer (lots of pics!)

This was my first ever staining project. I used General Finishes Satin Gel stain as well, and it seemed relatively forgiving for my first time staining. I had to use about 4 coats to get the result I posted.

I measured and the open space is ~27.75" x 18", hopefully that helps with your math on the carboys (I'm not sure how big they are).

Making a Birch Keezer (lots of pics!)

Hi Moleary33, Everything is attached to the top of the keezer, I lift the kegs in and out of through the top. You can see how I did this in post #11 of this thread, the 4th picture is a good shot of the plywood attached to the top of the keezer. It is really difficult to open, the top is...

Making a Birch Keezer (lots of pics!)

Wow, it has been an epic journey, but the keezer is finally done and I wanted to update everyone on the (mostly) final progress. Here it is, all stained and clear coated. Four coats of Georgian Cherry Stain: Four coats of satin clear coat: Granite tile base and glass backsplash...

Making a Birch Keezer (lots of pics!)

77bawls - Yeah I sealed it with a 1lb cut of shellac! I started staining last night, I need to post more pics. sv5622 - I will get you dimensions later today when I get home, it should definitely fit a half barrel since it fits two cornys without offsetting (2x 8.5" = 17" and half barrel is...

How to splice in a Stc-1000 to my keezer

Thanks, raouliii. Yes, an internal installation is desired, I have already built an external Stc box with plugs but want this one internal. When I said electrical competency, I meant I know my way around wiring house plugs, garage doors, building PCs, but not necessarily reading schematics and...

    Kegco shank not sitting flush?

Hey all, I bought 5 kegco 4" shanks for my keezer build but something strikes me weird about them. The black face plate (best way I an describe it..) doesn't sit flush to the shank. Here are some pics. Does anyone else have this on their shanks and is this normal? Here you can see the part...

How to splice in a Stc-1000 to my keezer

Hey all, I'm building a keezer and am interested in running an Stc-1000 inline to replace the thermostat for better accuracy. I'm attaching a pic of the wiring diagram, would anyone be able to give details how to do this? I'm competent with electrical and built the Stc-1000 fermentation control...

Hops haven't surfaced yet this year

I live in Long Beach, CA and the weather has been terrific here. I'm watering them a couple times a week, is that too little?

Hops haven't surfaced yet this year

Hey All, I planted some new Cascade and Centennial hops last year, they grew extremely quickly and even produced some hops their first year. I cut the vines at the end of the season and didn't water them or anything. These are in a couple big pots from Costco and I started watering them...

Making a Birch Keezer (lots of pics!)

Hobbes88 - Thanks and good luck with your keezer when you start it! neild5 - I wasn't planning to put a cooling fan in, but I could probably attach one if needed. This is going to sit in an insulated garage in Southern California so I'm not too concerned about the amount of times it is going to...

Making a Birch Keezer (lots of pics!)

After finishing up my garage I decided it was time to start my keezer project with my father-in-law. I've been reading and studying for quite a while and felt it was time to dive in head first myself. I started by buying the chest freezer a couple months ago. I went with a new Igloo 10.0...

    Kölsch Black Widow Kolsch

Hey All! What temp did you do your D-rest at? I just got a ferm chamber set up so I'm able to start making beers like this and I am going to brew this on Sunday. Since the primary temp is already at 62 degrees, did you just kick it up to 65 degrees or so for a few days before starting...

Under counter fridge/freezer for bar build?

Thanks for the info, Slarkin. I might actually try to do the kegerator route, if I can in fact fit 4 kegs and CO2 in it. I may just drill a hole in the kegerator also and put the CO2 outside of the fridge to make room. I looked for a True fridge and yeah, they may be a bit more than I want to...

Under counter fridge/freezer for bar build?

Thanks for the info, Kevin. I am searching for a solution to store more kegs, like 4-5, plus my 10 lb CO2 tank, so it is going to have to be bigger than the standard under cabinet beverage/wine fridges. =/
