Tapcooler Hands Free Bottling Mount: Anyone Used It?

i have a tapcooler bottle filler and really love it. way easier to user than a beer gun. the only think i don't like is that is is a bit slow and having to hold the bottle can be a pain. i saw that there is a hands free mount that hooks to the filler and holds a bottle into place. i wanted...

Secondary Fermentation Length Before Bottling for Mixed Fermentation w/ Brett

hello, brett first timer question. i'm planning to brew a saison with saison yeast and then add brettanomyces after primary fermentation is completed. i am planning to bottle the batch so that i don't have to worry about cross contamination and having to buy a keg and tap just for this batch...

Small Batch: saving 1/2 pack of dry yeast packet for later batches?

hello, i recently started doing more 2.5 gallon 1/2 batches. i just dont drink as much as i used to but still enjoy the process of brewing and like having a variety of styles on hand to drink. i use dry yeast for probably 75% of my brews and it feels wasteful and unnecessary to use a whole...

Bottling Saison with Harvested Brett Yeast

Hello, i have plans to brew a gin barrel aged saison in the near future. i was planning on bottling it and thought about possibly adding the dregs of a brett beer. i thought the best way would be adding it in the bottling bucket to reduce the amount of items that could be contaminated. i know...

    Help! CO2 leak trouble shooting

thanks for all the advice. Found the issue: i had a bad gas in connector that wasnt fitting tight. It works fine normally, but the gas line was twisted/pushed in a way that made it leak. I tested in on other kegs and it did the same thing the line was pushed. threw it out and replaced with...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

just brewed an ipa with this strain. was only able to get the temp around 85-90. OG was 1.076 and FG was 1.021, which i thought was a little high but doesn't taste to sweet. fermented for 2 weeks. anyone get this high of a FG?

Almost no carbonation in Imperial Stout

i've had this issue with a 12% ABV barley wine i made in november 2018. i bottled and underprimed a little becase my total end volume was around 4.25-4.5 gallons. after no carbonation by March 2019, i opened the bottles, added 1/2 carbonation tab and a pinch of bottles yeast...

anyone have experience with drying and reusing kviek yeast?

i just brewed an IPA with hornindal kviek yeast. still waiting for it to carbonate in the keg but it's pretty tasty. i've seen people selling dried kviek yeasts and read about the history of it being harvested on knotty wooden rings and dried for future use. i was reading at the website below...

how long can you keep a yeast cake?

i wanted to check how long you can keep a yeast cake as long as you keep an inch or so of beer on top of it? i've tried yeast harvesting about 5 times and 4 of those times i've ended up with the yeast getting infected. i would boil jars and lids for 15 minutes and still had issue, though was...

    reusing 5 gallon whiskey barrel

thanks for the info. the barrel was an impulse buy and didn't realize how much work it would be and that it can only be used a few times. gonna do a big ass imperial stout next time to make the most of it before the flavors start to fade too much.

    reusing 5 gallon whiskey barrel

Im finishing a porter im aging in a 5 gallon rye whiskey barrel. Im doing a short term age (also known as ‘resting’ i think?) and plan to only do about 3 weeks before kegging. Im planning to make a big bad stout in a few months and want to see what i should do to clean and help preserve the...

    is harvested yeast infected?

Correction: this is actually the 4th collection of kolsch yeast. the first collection of the unwashed batch looks fine. double checked and realized this was the 4th gen harvest of the kolsch i started harvesting. pitched it. for the record, it smelled like really good sauerkraut, which...

    is harvested yeast infected?

I was checking on some harvested yeast (white labs kolsch) and found one of the two jars like this. puffy, opaque white foam that also looks a bit granulated. Guessing its an infection but wanted input. Other jar looks fine but i'm wondering if i can still use it for my next cream ale i'll be...

controlled temp increase vs free rise?

NOTE: i only make ales, so technique above should not be confused w/ brewing a lager (though i can see how it might seem that way)

controlled temp increase vs free rise?

Got a mini-fridge w/ temp controller about a year ago for temp controlled fermentation. typically i will bring the wort down to about 5 degrees below the lowest temp recommended for the yeast strain used to compensate for if the wort is a higher temp inside the fermenter. i then pitch the...

    Kegerator

converted to a kegerator about 6-8 months ago. was worried for a minute that it might be just as much work as bottling but have to say it was worth it. also love not having to wait as long for stuff to carbonate, especially higher gravity beers.
