Did a quick search but didn't find much on this topic. I was wondering if it's ok to make a yeast starter using corn sugar instead of DME? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to this?

just buy a 2# bag of DME, that is enough for 9x 1 liter starters.
1 liter water - 100g DME makes ~1.040 starter
1# = .450 KG

comes out to about $1 per starter
