So I pitched an Activator Smack Pack of Forbidden Fruit into a starter today and it stunk of rotting fruit. I mean really strong, I have pitched many a smack pack and never had this odor. Should I not use this?

Thanks! :mug:

That's normal for the 3463. If you're using a 5gal carboy, have a mighty blowoff rigged up. Better yet, just do it in a 6.5gal carboy or bucket. This is a true top-cropping yeast, so there's probably going to be a lot more yeast on the top than you're used to.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for the quick response! I do use a 6.5 carboy for all my primary action goodness to avoid the blowoff mishaps. I then use the 5 carboy for 2ndary conditioning. I was just so worried when I smelled it, but now I am psyched for my imperial wit I am brewing tomorrow :ban: :rockin:
