been waiting an hour for the wort to cool down to below 80. Its been at 130 for an hour. I unfortunately do not have a wort chiller and I didnt have an ice bath. Just topped off the 2.5 gallons of cold water on top of the hot wort.

What should I do? Wait to pitch(that could take all night to cool). Or pitch when it gets below 100 or so?

Or just wait a few more hours until it hit's pitching temp. I've pitched at over 80F before and it will definitely give you strong off flavors.

Yeah, no joke, fill up the tub and pop it in there. By itself, air-cooled, will take hours and possibly infect it. Even with just water it'll take like an hour, but that's not as bad.

your wort will not get infected simply because you are letting it cool overnight, but like has been suggested, put it in a tub of cold water until it gets to pitching temps. above all, don't panic.

ps.
watching it will cause the wort temp to rise!

Go to the gas station get some more ice and perform another ice bath. Unless of course you have been guzzlin homebrews while you brew!

Do you have any frozen whatever in your freezer you can cool some water down with?? veggies would work as they suck to eat anyways lol
