So I mistakenly ordered some WLP845 fast lager yeast instead of the high pressure lager yeast WLP925.

There is not really much information on the Whitelabs website or elsewhere regarding this yeast, does anyone have any experience with this yeast?

Not sure it is any faster than any other lager yeast, 8 days to get to 1010 FG from 1048. Fairly clean just a touch of sulfur no esters. The beer I made was only 21IBU but it seems a bit more, not sure if that has anything to do with the yeast though.

Used it to make a helles with Great Western Superior Pilsner Malt as the base. Don't think I like that malt, has more of a raw graininess to it compared to European pilsner malts.

Took a short pour to see how it is coming, 7weeks and still a slight haze. I am sure a shot of gelatin would clear it up. I tried it at 2 weeks and 4 weeks and I would say the beer was progressing like any other lager I make, it could of been drank then but it was a bit rough still. It is ready to drink now but I will give it bit more time to see if drops clear on its own.

I'd agree with your take on GW pils, as i've found with most US pils malt. You just don't get the smoothness as you do with European continental malts. I'm going to use Weyermann or Castle in this brew, and really treat the water to get the PH down.

It's for Big Brew day on saturday. Should be fun!

Thanks for the Info on the yeast. I'm gonna use it. I'll let you know.
