will this work as lager box?

I am wondering if anyone have used one of these without a controller on it. the present owner uses it for a cooler and says that coldest it 30 degrees, (dial is like a fridge coldest-warmest) I am wanting a lager box and saw this for sale. if it needs no mods (temp contoller) price is perfect. if not i might as well buy a freezer.

At the risk of sounding a little down on the idea, you can prolly pick up a fridge / freezer on Craigslist for the same price, maybe cheaper... Besides, with a fridge / freezer, you will have more room for multiple batches.... Possibly...

it's got cool factor, but think about using it - not too practical having to lower a carboy down in that baby.

Don't go with a side-by-side if you look on craigslist. once you apply a control to the temp, the freezer compartment becomes useless - can't regulate its temperature independently from the fridge compartment. mini fridge is a perfect lager box.
