so I'm in MI, and everyone is always so excited about Oberon. However the other day I ordered another american wheat ale, Whitsun. seems to be the same style, but it's less wheat heavy, more orange-y, less bitter, and a bit smoother.

Has anyone had this, and comfortable enough to take a shot at a clone recipe? Looked around for a bit, and there are some suggested recipes but noone seems to have given any feedback about their results.

I am thinking about trying my hand at formulating the recipe, but wanted to know if you found anything/had a jumping off point yet.

There is an orange wheat on here that was half 2 row half wheat and like 2 ounces oranges peel at 5 mins. I'll do a side by side with Oberon and see if it's anything close. I also added an ounce of cascade at 20 mins in addition to the 60 min addition.

I haven't found anything close. Saw some recipes named whitsun on brewtoad, but doesn't look accurate. No mention of zest.

Off the top of my head I would suggest starting with a oberon/titania recipe on here
Maybe lower the wheat a little, raise the 2row to compensate, maybe even carapils or Munich so it's a little sweeter.
Make sure there's some orange, and lemon zest, both sweet and bitter zest.

I'm looking into buying some 1g jugs. I might make some variations and see if I can do some side by side comparisons with some friends in about a month or so once I get my chest freezer hooked up to a stc1000.

Enjoy!

This is the one I followed mostly .

It looks like it's pretty legit as far as the grains, IBU, ABV, body and ingredient list. The things I'm not sure on are the amounts of zest, coriander, honey, what hops and how much (this is just a guess).

This looks like a good start. Have you tried emailing Arcadia? They are small enough I bet they would at least give you some pointers.

I just sent an email to one of their brewers, I'll post the reply if I get one. In particular I asked him about the hops, zest, honey, and yeast strain.

Got a slightly informative response, they use w1187 yeast (ringwood) which appears to be english ale yeast with high flocc and fruity esters.

Also the hops are described as piney, so I'll adjust that. Any suggestions for piney+ hop combinations?

Google Hop Variety Chart, theres' several that show the flavor profiles of hops.

Chinook and Simcoe are labeled as "Evergreen"
