So, I saw on facebook that ship bottom brewery is canning their beer soon and one of the brands is "Double Overhead IPA". Really!? How do you not know that there is a beer out there with the same name and produced 50 miles north, no less?
That was my reaction when I saw Interboro's logo. Don't they know there is a 2 year old brewery 90 min north of them with basically the same logo?

Some real gems in the facebook post, great read at work. My favorite takeaway is people either being surprised that Climax is still open, or just not knowing who Climax is at all.

Also just saw this on Ship Bottom's facebook about their first canning event
"We will also have limited edition Double Overhead IPA T-Shirts available for purchase!"

Are they trying to pick a fight? Or perhaps seeking to claim this as their own?

tl:dr He told the owner of Troon to brew "clear beers" and the hazy IPAs are an "abomination to brewing". Then went off about how he has 30+ years experience. Called some people the "c" word. Proclaimed Lagunitas and Sam Adams as the best IPA brewers in the world. Good times.

He was only dropping c-bombs after somebody else called him the same. Not that it makes it any better. I can't believe he tried to backpedal and say he wasn't the one with an attitude though lol. Basically made my morning when the owner/brewer switched the convo to music and let everyone just tear apart Climax. Troon's page picked up a few hundred likes in the process so it worked out well for everyone involved.

I remember when he put an infected beer on tap at a NJ tap takeover and claimed it as his intentionally sour beer and then went on to criticize batch 1 of Monkey saying that it wasn't sour enough to be a "sour"... and that I should drink his beer instead.

Heard some claims of racism as well but whatever... old and butt-hurt will be old and butt-hurt

I worked a beer fest with them once and the guy was basically like "Hey try this really awful beer, it's supposed to be x-style but tastes like dirty water." Paraphrasing but that's basically how the employees talk about the beers there.

The one guy is always rocking a confederate flag bandanna, that's enough for me to not want to have anything to do with them.

I was wondering the same, Ship bottom was in the works and brewing for a while in PA sort of under the radar before they opened their current NJ location. I'm sure he knows about Kane at this point, but may think he was first?

I never heard of Climax....but that was some quality shitposting. I'm pretty sure that guy would have a melt down if he saw the amount of breweries that have beers like that now.

I've been out of town for a few days so I spent the morning catching up on the Climax meltdown on Troon's page. Sadly all of Hoffmann's posts are gone but so many people captured screenshots that it's all still out there in some form. I can't recall the last time I witnessed such a public professional suicide.

I've never been to Climax nor had their beers but I was on their Yelp page this morning. Apparently beers are sold in plastic cups and the tour involves someone speaking into an old amp "explaining the brewing process." Sounds like a high-class establishment.

Now Troon can attribute a sizeable bump in interest in their brewery thanks to that debacle. Very excited to give them a try. Sounds like there's a Conclave/Lone Eagle/Troon trifecta visit that can be made once Troon is open.

brotherton jersey devil was fantastic.

btw I'm really pumped for Barrow House to open in Clifton. Seems like Kane just dropped a delivery off which should mean they're opening soon. A mile from my house and I need something new here. totally pumped for what Cowan's Pub guys have in store....

I was not huge on Jersey Devil when I had it last week, but I had just had about 3 or 4 Overheads prior.

Yeah, saw that and definitely looking forward to them opening soon. Probably end up at Cowan's more than any other craft bars in the area these days.

Anyone get out to Climax this weekend?

I don't think that the people who work at Climax even went to Climax this weekend...there was probably a line of Groupon customers very confused as to why slightly racist insults were lobbed at them by the owner from an old PA system.

Spellbound Anniversary tomorrow anyone?

If I go, it will just be to grab bottles. But for the sake of everyone else, I hope they release the tapping schedule ahead of time.

Last year I went early and had no idea they were staggering stuff throughout the day. Sadly, there wasn't too much pouring early on that I cared about, and I wasn't about to stand around in a tent for 8 hours waiting, so I missed out on some good stuff.

I'll be there tomorrow and I think pouring at one of the outside spots for the first half of the day. They are going to have a staggered tap list again, with some beers coming on at 4 or when others kick. The final tap schedule/list was still being finalized, but lots of fun stuff on early. They should have the Mayan mocha imperial stout most of the day, which was awesome.

yes sir! i'll be there in the afternoon

I'll probably be hanging all day regardless of the schedule. Good beers good people good times. I know they posted earlier what they will have on tap all day (includes the 3 stouts) but no other timetable.

Anyone ever been to that Hops bar in Morristown? I'll be down that way all day tomorrow for a homebrew competition, and then considering stopping there for dinner before I head home (especially if there are ribbons to celebrate :D)

I'll be there. Other than the ghost pepper mango pale and vices coffee porter I'll probably want to stick to the all day beers anyway:

*Beers with an asterisk we expect to have on tap all day.
*Porter on Palo Santo
*Pale ale
*Cherry Belgian Tripel
*Peach IPA
*IPA
*Porter
*LivingtheDream?! Imperial Stout (yes, all day!)
Hazelnut Raspberry Milk Stout
VICES Coffee Porter
Gingerbread Brown Ale
Pumpkin ale
Bourbon Pumpkin Ale
Peach Citra Pale Ale
Blueberry Pale Ale
2015 Porter aged on Palo Santo
Bourbon Vanilla Porter
Firkin - Lemongrass Ginger Pale Ale
*Mayan Cocoa LivingTheDream Imperial Stout (yay to all day!)
Black Pepper Gruit Ale
Rosewater Belgian Tripel
Coconut Imperial Porter
*Pale Ale
Oud Bruin Sour ale
*LivingTheDream?! Bourbon Barrel Imperial stout (yup, all day)
Whatwerewethinking??? Barley wine
Whatwerewethinking??? Buffalo Trace Barleywine
Whatwerewethinking??? Heaven Hill Barleywine
FIRKIN - Chocolate Peanut butter porter
Double dry hopped Pale Ale - Citra Mosaic
Double dry hopped Pale Ale - Galaxy Citra
Gruit Ale
Coconut Imperial Porter
Ghost Pepper Mango Pale Ale

Actually the Rosewater Tripel is one of my favorites that they brew. The Oud Bruin was solid when I had it last time I was there. Def want to try the DDH Pales too. And the Gruit should be interesting, never had one before.

That place is ok. End of elm is close too.

And as for ribbons...
