Spellbound anniversary was great! So many awesome beers. Really liked the Mayan cocoa, BA stout, DH galaxy/citra, ghost pepper mango. Really well run/organized, the various stations made it so there was never too big of a crowd or line. Super glad the wife was willing to DD for this one :)

We are getting Crooked Stave up here now also, killer

Things are (very) slowly but surely starting to come up Milhouse.

In addition to more bottles, I saw CoolVines in JC has a small growler station. Didn't see how much everything was. Seemed like the fills were all local-ish. BottleCo in North Bergen also has a bunch of taps and even a bar. It's nice not having to take the better part of a morning, etc to get a growler fill (though driving anywhere in Hudson County always has "potential shitshow" on it). Now if everyone could stop leaving old ass IPA on the shelf, my stabbiness and disappointment might subside (well, maybe... kinda... okay, probably not, but at least I could get something that wasn't dusty and gross).

pretty sure CoolVines in JC had Brotherton IPA on growler fills... I still need to try that.

Never heard of this CoolVines place, but it's only a mile from the office so I may have to check it out.

You should! I agree, the prices are reasonable and they have a mix and match section in the back. There's a solid wall of stouts and sours. Not a huge variety of hops (that would satisfy our super picky palates) but I suppose that's where the growlers come into play now. They also have lots of fancy gentrified-downtown-JC-people snacks, heh. I've not met Matt officially, but I know Nat and he's a good dude.

the 2016 vinegar drought

Has Cascade really gone that far down hill? I thought back I the day 2009-2012-ish they had some solid offerings. Sang Royal comes to mind.

Maybe the competition has caught up or their price points, not unlike the Bruery and some others, have made that purchase much less frequent.

i agree with you and i think they just had a bad year or 2 but in the last year they've really improved. definitely less acidic than they used to be

I like a good amount of what I've had from Cascade, but I've also had pours that were super acidic. I hate that the bottles are so expensive. You used to be able to buy bottles directly from their site, and you could get a shitload for the cost of one or two here (plus a bag!). Grumble.

The GM Matt is a super nice dude. Helped me out in a pinch for my wedding. Will definitely be making my sixer purchases there from now on. Good prices too

That's me. I'm Matt! Hi guys!

We are getting fresh Brotherton Kegs every week. Should have a fresh keg of IPA and their dry hopped Berliner tomorrow.

This is good to know. I've become a complete IPA freshness snob lately and been relying on my homebrew and cans picked up direct from breweries (Trillium, Tree House, Other Half), because trying to find packaged IPAs in stores that are that fresh and well handled (cold storage) is largely a fool's errand. Would not mind the occasional growler of Brotherton though, their IPA is good stuff.

Packaged stuff is a bitch. We don't have a lot of options in NJ for retail and 90% of the stuff coming in is usually already old. We've been getting Newburgh Mega Boss in pretty fresh lately, but I'm crazy about dates and freshness too. It's just hard to know what you are going to get from these distributors. Nash sent me a year and a half old case of Union Jack once lol.

Also, while I'm shamelessly promoting CoolVines.... we have our very own beer that we had Tranmitter brew for us. It's a white wine barrel aged brett saison, that has been in the barrel for about a year. Should be releasing it next month.

There ya go, Os. Get yourself some! I like the Brotherton as well. A friend recommended it and I was skeptical at first, since I don't always agree with his ratings. etc. But it really was nice.
I will probably try to stop in toward the end of the week for some Friday night/Weekend football sloth. Matt, do you guys fill all types of growlers?

Checked out the soft opening of the Barrow House last night. Very cool spot, it's amazing what they did with the interior of that place. Food is pricey, but very good. Similar draft selection to Cowans, about 15 taps, all craft. Looks like half will always be on and half will rotate.
